Oh dear just found out that Philip Seymour Hoffman has died....so sad....not sure where to put this:

OMFE! I wonder if he succumbed to the drugs he was battling?

Oh that's just horrible news!  I wondered the very same, mel...his addiction was rearing it's ugly head again, I'd read on the news blogs and he seemed to be getting professional help.   I suppose it could be other health issues and not related to drug abuse of any kind.  He was still a young man, only 46.  Either way, whatever the cause, it's sad news for his family and close friends and a sad loss for the film industry as well.

News outlets reporting Phillip Seymour Hoffman, 46 year old, was found dead today in his NYC apartment.

New York Post is stating he was found with a needle in his arm.

Phillip starred with George in The Ides of March.

It's very upsetting news.
He was brilliant in Capote.
The film world has lost a real artist, but of course the greatest

Splendid actor

Just saw the story on MSN. They're saying that it was a drug overdose. So sad for his family and friends. He was such a gifted actor. It makes me wonder what it is about the entertainment industry that causes so many truly talented people to seem to self-destruct. Is it the type of personalities that are attracted to that type of life, or is it the environment they find themselves in? Either way, this is just tragic.

Famous deaths invite hyperbole. The news that Philip Seymour Hoffman was discovered dead today in an apartment bathroom, with a syringe sticking out of his arm, seems like an occasion to overreact with some exaggerated summary of his career—something like "most talented and kaleidoscopic actor of his time."

Except, in this case, the compliment isn't hyperbolic at all. It's just an accurate description, as true yesterday as it is today. And the competition isn't even that close.

It's not clear that there were roles Philip Seymour Hoffman could not do.

The first thing about Philip Seymour Hoffman—that is, the first thing most audiences saw—is that he looked unremarkable, even boring.
He had a hangdog countenance, often sliced with the swoop of his receding blond mane, with small, firm eyes. He wasn't strikingly handsome, nor strikingly unhandsome, neither thin nor obese, not blessed with any distinguishing gosh-wow feature that would make somebody watching an early performance in Twister or The Big Lebowski exclaim, "I think we've found our next Brando."
Instead of standing out in these early films, he stood within them—gauging the pace and tone of the action around him and blending in so delicately that it's not uncommon for even Hoffman fanatics to look back on his career and think, I forgot he was in that.

It's easy to forget because there is so much to remember.

Even the shortlist is long: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Master, Moneyball, The Ides of March, Doubt, Synecdoche, New York, Charlie Wilson's War, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Mission: Impossible III, Capote, Along Came Polly, Almost Famous, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Magnolia, Boogie Nights.
And those are just the movies I remember seeing.
The list doesn't include his tremendous career in theater, a stage where his talents were arguably even more kinetic.

The diversity of that list—biopics, romantic comedies, dark dramas, action franchises—offers an appreciation for Hoffman's range. But to truly understand it, you have to see the man in action. Here is our first scene, a talker from Aaron Sorkin's Charlie Wilson's War, where Hoffman plays a maverick CIA agent bitching out his boss, with a voice that flips from wry guttural to grizzly-bear roar.

In the German television they said that the funeral is on Friday and George Clooney and Matt Damon will attend. Not sure if that can be true as they have to do the premier on Saturday in Berlin. Or maybe they can still make it due to the time difference......

Ok just found that but George and Matt so far are not confirmed...who knows..

Stars of stage and screen will gather in New York on Friday morning for Philip Seymore Hoffmann's funeral. 
The tragic actor’s estranged girlfriend Mimi - the mum of his three children - arrived at a New York funeral parlour today to plan the ceremony.The stars's ex was accompanied by Hoffman’s British assistant Isabella Wing-Davey at the Frank E Campbell funeral home.
Sources say a private wake for Hoffman’s family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 5pm-9pm on Thursday.
The funeral will be held the following day before noon at New York’s St Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church.
Stars including Cate Blanchett, Justin Theroux and Bobby Cannavale, who have comforted Ms O’Donnell this week, are among those expected to attend.
The 116-year-old church on the Upper East Side of Manhattan was the scene of Jackie Onassis’ funeral in May 1994.
The extremist right wing Westboro Baptist Church has threatened to picket Friday’s funeral in protest at Hoffman’s portrayal of a priest in the 2008 film Doubt.

NEW YORK (KABC) -- A star-studded crowd gathered in Manhattan on Friday morning for a private funeral for actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Many of Hoffman's fellow actors streamed into the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola to pay their respects, including Cate Blanchett, his co-star from "The Talented Mr. Ripley;" Ethan Hawke, co-star from "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," Amy Adams, co-star from "The Master," Ellen Burstyn, co-star from "Red Dragon;" and Spike Lee, who directed Hoffman in "The 25th Hour."

Hoffman, 46, was found dead in his apartment Sunday of an apparent heroin overdose. He leaves behind his partner of 15 years, Mimi O'Donnell, and their three children.

Playwright David Bar Katz, who found Hoffman's body, was visibly upset as he arrived.

The actor's body was carried into the church by pallbearers, as O'Donnell followed, holding their youngest child.

Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore, Joaquin Phoenix, Louis C.K., Mary Louise Parker, John Slattery, Jerry Stiller, Marisa Tomei, Diane Sawyer and her director husband, Mike Nichols were also in attendance.

The Church of St. Ignatius Loyola is the church that hosted the funerals of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lena Horne and Aaliyah.

A larger memorial service is being planned for later this month.

While Hoffman was found with a syringe in his arm and dozens of bags of heroin in his apartment, a medical examiner's office is awaiting toxicology tests to determine the official cause of death.

As the investigation into Hoffman's death continues, three people have been arraigned on drug charges, including one who is facing a felony charge of heroin possession with intent to sell. Lawyers for the three people charged vigorously denied their clients had any role in Hoffman's death.
