Re: What favorite movies you watch?
I've moved this topic here since it's not about George.
To all COHs:
Please be aware of what section you are in before you start a new topic. It does get tedious to keep moving topics that are not in the correct section. And later when someone is searching the forum, being in the correct section is helpful.
Thanks.

Re: What favorite movies you watch?
Oh and my favorite movies usually involve someone like Doris Day in them.
I love Pillow Talk and that whole series of films she did in the 60s with Rock Hudson, James Garner and Rod Taylor. Of course I was a but a wee, wee child when I watched those movies for the first time *cough*
Here's the original trailer for Pillow Talk!

Re: What favorite movies you watch?
Lorna you had me at Doris Day - so loved Pillow Talk - Rock Hudson, simply delicious in every way - and one of my all time favourites ever is By the Light of Silvery Moon - loved her acting alongside Gordan Macrae. Knew every verse of Tea for Two.
My all time go to good feeling movie is still the Sound of Music followed by Grease - you cant possibly be anything but happy watching those in my opinion.
Dances with Wolves, Top Gun, anything Hitchcock, John Wayne, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Pacino, De Niro and Im sold.

@LornaDoone<<< In German called the film "The Physician", in English it is called "The Physician", I have already seen a short film section. I'm curious if this movie is just as good as the book. I have played alongside Sir Ben Kingsley and Stellan Stardsgard was an honor.

Re: What favorite movies you watch?
theminis they just aired a live version of The Sound of Music (based on the stage version which was different than the film) on the telly this week and it was universally trashed.
There are some films that just should NOT be remade and Sound of Music is one of them.
I just watched a Kevin Costner film that wasn't as well received as Dances With Wolves but which I really enjoyed in this last viewing. It's called The Postman. Interesting concept of what life would be like if the US as a whole didn't exist - after a major war for instance. (They never do tell you what happened in that regard in the film.)
Two things were very interesting: 1. How pockets of towns sprung up in the most unlikely places, like the top of a dam because people banned together to try to defend themselves. 2. It made me think what would our world be like after an apocalypse where things we take for granted no longer exist. Like reliable electricity, food supplies and with transportation reverting back to horseback only. And as in the premise of the film, losing something like a national postal service - with no way to communicate with others outside of your own town.
Also interesting was the premise that a man who was an ex-copier salesman in his former life now is a feudal war lord, acting as if it was the middle ages. He, expecting not only that the villages feed his army, but if they do not obey him instantly killing anyone in his path. A man who most likely was invisible in his previous life, now making sure everyone saw him and feared him.
As I said, panned by the critics and barely made any money, but now looking back on it and the events of the last 12 years, makes one wonder if we lost it all in some apocalypse would we revert to the most base of humans with no regard for others because of a need for self-preservation?

Yep it would be catastrophic on so many levels, self preservation and survival of the fittest, it would get nasty out there - also how would the Dlisters cope if they couldn't post their endless selfies?????

Re: What favorite movies you watch?
EW Magazine recently had a photo spread reuniting iconic film casts. Mystic Pizza was one of the casts that was photographed and it was pretty interesting to see what they were all up to now.
Of course Vincent D'Onofrio is probably the other person who became very famous after that film. He was the principle character for years on Law and Order Criminal Minds.
And just recently, Annabeth Gish, was on a TV show here in the US in a decidedly very risque role. She's on The Bridge on FX and I've seen more of her skin in that role than I've ever seen on regular television! HA!

As to Julia, who knows whatever happened to her! brahahahaha!

I looked this up on IMDB and the name has been changed to The Prophecy, from 1995. I found it by looking up Virginia Madsen and searching her movie database

Re: What favorite movies you watch?
I agree that Gone With the Wind is a wonderful film.
Seeing it for the first time in the cinema when it was reissued in the 70's made me read the book.
I've watched it a few more times on TV with a different view towards Scarlett & Rhett's relationship.
I kept wanting to knock their heads together and tell them...."For goodness sake just talk honestly to each other....You're both too stubborn and proud"

WOW tomorrow at 25/12/2013 is the world premiere of "the Medicus" movie in Berlin, among others, Ben Kingsley, Stellan Starsgaard ... with it. I participated as an extra in this film. I was a Jewish woman. Here is a link to it. World Premiere only in Germany. Anyone who has read the book by Noah Gordon knows that the film is as good as the book!!
