Misty Upham is missing.
The August: Osage County actress has been missing for six days in Washington state, say authorities.
She was last seen walking by herself from an apartment near Auburn, about 20 miles south of Seattle, last Sunday.
Cops say that Upham’s family has indicated that she’s been on medication for mental health issues.
In the past year, police have responded to four separate suicide calls from the apartment Upham was spotted leaving, including one on the day she was reported missing.
The actress had already exited the residence before cops arrived.
Law enforcement officials believe that Upham left the apartment of her own volition; there are no suspects or leads in the investigation.

Upham played the family housekeeper in August: Osage County, and is set to appear in the new Jennifer Aniston movie Cake.
She was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her work in 2008′s Frozen River.

A body believed to be missing actress Misty Upham has been found near Auburn, Washington, according to law enforcement officials — although an official identification has not been made at this point.
The August: Osage County and Frozen River actress was reported missing on October 6; her family told authorities that she had been on medication for mental health issues and was potentially suicidal.
On Thursday, police in Auburn found a body “over a cliff in a wooded area” near the White River. Spokesperson Steve Stocker said there was a “good chance” it is Upham, although no identification has been confirmed.
Upham played the family housekeeper in August: Osage County, and is set to appear in the new Jennifer Aniston movie Cake.

Misty Upham's Family Confirms She Is Dead as Meryl Streep and Juliette Lewis Offer Condolences

UPDATE: Upham's manager Richard Kerner tells E! News in a statement, "Such sad and tragic news. Misty's star will always shine brightly! Misty was a talented and kind soul. I am proud to have been part of her journey. She will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to all Misty's family , friends and fans."

________ More than two weeks after Misty Upham was reported missing, the actress' family has confirmed she is dead. The Auburn Police Department told E! News Thursday that it had found a body "presumed" to be Misty, 32, though it was awaiting "positive identification" from the King County medical examiner. Later, a spokeswoman for the Uphams confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the body was indeed Misty's. Local filmmaker Tracy Rector, a longtime friend of Misty's, said the August: Osage County star's uncle, Robert Upham, found her body along with two other searchers. Charles Upham, Misty's father, later confirmed the Frozen River star's identity to the authorities. "We waited at the site where the team found the body," said Tracy, who was part of the search party. "It took about five-and-a-half hours to confirm. Then we gathered around her body to say prayers and now we're all gathered at the church."

Misty's cause of death has yet to be determined. However, as the Auburn Police Department told E! News Thursday, "At this point we do not have any evidence or information to believe there is foul play." On Oct. 10, Charles told The Hollywood Reporter that his daughter suffered from bipolar disorder and was off her medication when she disappeared, leading him to believe that she may have been suicidal. On Thursday night, however, Tracy said the Uphams no longer believed that was the case, saying, "The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not feel that Misty Upham committed suicide." As news of Misty's passing spread, her former colleagues shared their condolences. Misty played for Meryl Streep's caretaker in August: Osage County. The Oscar winner paid her respects, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "So, so sad to hear this news--all our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit." Juliette Lewis, who co-starred with Misty in August: Osage County, tweeted, "I cant sleep. Too much darkness.

I feel so sad about Misty. I know she has more to say. And about how she died. #RIPMistyUpham." Actress Melissa Leo, whose character worked with Upham's to smuggle illegal immigrants from Canada into America in Frozen River, added, "Such a loss...so sad, so so sad." "The world will be a colder place without Misty's warm heart, and she will be sorely missed at PETA," PETA president Ingrid E. Newkirk told E! News in a statement Friday. "She was extremely kind and cared deeply about animals, constantly calling for protection for the bears suffering in roadside zoos on tribal land, a call we will carry forward in her honor. It's a tragedy whenever anyone dies before their time, but Misty Upham was a friend to us and to animals everywhere."

What a sad story.

It's always very sad when someone is dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts.  

Her family must be devasted because they will always feel they should have done more to help her - unfortunately sometimes no matter how much you try - the person just won't accept help.

I hope her family can find peace some day.

Misty Upham, the August: Osage County actress who was found dead in a ravine in Auburn, Washington on Thursday, slipped off a cliff and died accidentally, her family now says.
Initially, Upham’s family said she had been on medication for mental health issues and was potentially suicidal, noting in the past year the police have responded on four separate occasions to suicide calls from her apartment. But Upham’s family, in a lengthy post on Facebook on Friday, says the actress’ death was “accidental,” and stresses, “She did not commit suicide.”
The Facebook statement, signed by various members of Upham’s family, reads, “We believe she ran into the wooded area behind her apartment to hide from the police. The area in question has a hidden drop off and evidence suggests that she slipped and fell off of the steep embankment when she tried to get out of a view from the road. She simply did not see the drop off… You just can’t see the steep drop until it’s to (sic) late.”
The family says the actress ran from the police with “good reason” because officers had previously had run-ins with Upham when transporting her involuntarily, due to her mental health issues, to the emergency room. During a prior transportation, claims the family, officers “taunt[ed] and tease[ed] her while she was in the [squad] car.” “They were tapping on the window making faces at her. Misty was crying,” writes the family on Facebook, adding that somehow or another when she arrive at the hospital, she had “a swollen jaw, black eye and scratches and bruises on her shoulder.”
Police came again to transport Upham to the ER on the day she disappeared. The family contends Upham went outside her apartment to avoid the cops, and they would have detained her, but the police made them stay inside the building, and that’s when Upham went missing. “We believe that if we were not otherwise occupied we may have found Misty before she got hurt,” reads the family’s Facebook post, adding, “The real tragedy is this could have been prevented on a lot of levels.”
There’s talk that the family may have changed its view of a potential suicide to accidental death because of various insurance implications. Those claims have yet to be confirmed or denied.
Juliette Lewis claimed  earlier on Friday that Upham had “known enemies” and might have been “murdered.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Upham was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her work in 2008′s Frozen River. She is also set to appear in the new Jennifer Aniston movie Cake.

I think the second to last paragraph may be the reason for the change.

Accident often equals larger insurance payouts.

Suicide often voids insurance policies.

Bottom line, this young woman died much too young.  I hope her death doesn't become something ugly regarding money.

When we talk about insurance does that mean the family gets lot's of money because of her death and gets rich?

I don't like that the family makes the police look bad just to get better chances to get the money. Pointing fingers on others is not nice just to make them look better . I don't think it is the Police fault that she got missing.

I think it is just another way to bring the focus away that it was suicide ...Don't think she was murdered.....

I think family and friends want to believe rather those Storys as it makes them feel less guilty then to think it was suicide. Even though they could not help but I think it is a normal to think if somebody does suicide People close to that Person feel guilty. To say she was murdered or had an accident is much better to live with....

I  think we're making a lot of assumptions about this poor family. They just lost their daughter and are grieving. Any time you lose a loved one there is guilt involved, for many reasons.

In this case they seem to feel that the police delayed them from looking for Misty and that they might have saved her if they had started looking sooner. Who knows? They might be right. To say they're making up stories to get insurance money is cynical and cruel. There's no way any of us could know the truth.

I didn't say the family making up storys Lizzy. Please read my post again and let me know which part you read it as such and I'm happy to explain. Or are you refering to the articel?

Nicky  I was responding to the article and what you said here in the second paragraph. There is nothing to show that the family is doing anything to get insurance money. They are grieving the loss of their child and talking about what they think happened to her. It appears they feel the police treated her unfairly and that more could have been done to find her. They may be right. After all, they are there and we aren't. It isn't the fault of the police that she went missing, but they may not have done enough to find her in time to save her life. We don't know all the facts.

Way2Old - Last I heard they didn't confirm anything. Her family is saying it was an accident - that she slipped and fell out behind her house while trying to avoid police because she thought they were going to place her in psych detention. I have a feeling there's more to know about what really happened to her.

the Police said only there was no foul Play it was her father who mentioned the word suicide. and I guess that's why the media picked it up as suicide... she fall off a cliff....

Behind her house? it was a cliff. in the article they say that

Thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot more. She could have been perfectly rational, and fell by accident, or she could have been paranoid to the point of psychosis and 'something' told her to jump or hide. Untreated bipolar disorder is scary.

 Awful way to die, whatever happened. I know her family must be devastated. So young and promising.

Yes very sad. It must be awful for parents to lose a child. All you want is to protect your child and then you lose it. Really awful. I hope the media let them alone...
