Meeting George

Post by Butterfly on Fri 31 May 2013, 20:34

Hi, dear GC fans,

I just registered and wanted to say hi to all of you flower.

I just realized that I belong here, in the Clooney's Open House, as I find myself happy whenever I see a picture of George Clooney somewhere. Any news about him attracts my attention and relaxes me. Is this love? This big I guess.

He is such a unique person. I would be honored to meet him personally. However, I cannot find a useful information on the web where do I have to go, do I have to pay a ticket to get access to a place where he meets his fans etc. There must be a way. Why wouldn't he want to meet us, his fans. We love him.

I have never wanted to meet a celebrity before. So I am new to this world. I would appreciate any info or idea how to meet him.

Thank you!

Love3

Hi, thanx for your comments.

I do read about GC's whereabouts but this is not useful at all. For instance, I have been in Berlin while he was filming there. Exact timing of filming on particular locations was not revealed to the public. I just wanted to see him, but that was impossible.

Butterfly....I don't anyone here on this forum can give you the detailed information that you're looking for.
We are only fans of George Clooney and have no "inside information" regarding his whereabouts other than what is available on the Internet, which can be found by doing a search on a daily basis.

Kind of true, it is a members club but you can book a room in the hotel without being a member and that again gives you access to the bar and restaurant. But who wants to do that. That would be a bit extreme.

He went in and out the entrance so maybe it would have been worth to wait outside to see him coming or leaving the hotel. You never know. Sometimes you can be lucky Very Happy

Hopefully Monuments Men will be a big enough film to warrant a world tour of Premieres for George and all the other cast members
to attend.
Rather like Iron Man 3 was for Robert Downey Jr.

Those of us in Europe can live in hope....can't we ?

Film premieres are probably the best place to get up close an personal if you get there early enough and are willing to wait for hours till the cast arrives.

One note though - security at these events is very tight. At least the ones I've been to.

The stars will be close enough for you to get an autograph from and if they're in the mood get your picture taken with them - across the barriers - but don't be fooled by what you see on camera. Right out of camera range there are numerous security personnel who will pounce on you if you overstep the autograph/possible picture scenario.

Thanx Joanna. The truth is that I was never interested in lives of celebrities, so I really had no idea how difficult it is to actually meet Clooney. I thought there must be a way.

I have an idea. Very Happy We may suggest to George the following: regular gatherings with his fans (for instance, twice per year, or monthly - but on different locations). People wishing to meet him personally should pay a ticket and reserve a place, while the money will be transfered to his favorite charities. For instance - Sudan. I think this could be a great source of income. What do you think? Hello!

Well Butterfly if you've got a LOT of money you could always be on the lookout for Clooney auctioning off a kiss.

The last one he did pulled in $350,000!!!

Selling kisses is .....oh, yuck!

Imagine there comes along a person you really dislike from the first moment on and then kiss her/him?

For money? Vomit 1

Back on topic, I can hardly understand these teenage fans of Justin Bieber or whomever, who wait for hours just to see him walking away or pulling things out of his nose, but not adult people.

You can order autographs per mail and you can photoshop yourself into a picture, why running after somebody you do not know, this is embarrassing.

Being a fan of a certain film genre, director, trilogy etc. and then supporting the premiere with other fans (and maybe wearing the costumes of the characters), that's something I like, it's more like a big party.

Please don't get me wrong, I do not want to judge anybody because of his/her passion for a celebrity, I just wouldn't run after them and try to meet them.

I think it is about the "kick" to meet somebody you love/admire to meet in person, face to face. The excitement to wait to see if you got lucky or not. And you do not realise how many hours you wait because you are excited for the moment. And if you are lucky enough to have that moment it was worth it to wait for so long.

I think I would run after George...not sure how far I get with high heels Very Happy But I would try it and then play hard to get hahaha..

Off topic....

When I was a teenager, many years ago, my friend and I would go to wait outside stage doors after work to meet whoever was on stage that week, either in a play or single performance.
We would chat with them and get autographs.

Billy Eckstine, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Ray, Al Martino, Ella Fitzgerald,
Peggy Lee, John Mills, Harry Secombe, Diana Dors, Max Bygraves
and various Opera singers are the ones I remember most.

We had very little money so hardly ever went to see them perform, except Frank Sinatra, Al Martino, Ella and Peggy Lee, who made me cry when I saw her on stage.

They would always say "Did you enjoy the show" or play....and we would enthuse "Oh yes it was wonderful" thinking we were so mature and adult.....LOL

I'm sure you enjoyed that.....Great moments. Very Happy
Once I was in NY on vacation and we walked by a hotel with some people waiting at front. They were waiting for Michael Jackson. My friend and I looked at each other and waited too. We only wanted to stay a minute but stayed for hours and Michael Jackson really came out going shopping and he talked to us and asked us questions like where you from and so on. He was really nice. After that meeting my friend and I went for dinner and talked about that moment and laughed. It is a memory which stays forever so it is always fun to do something like that if you got the chance :-)

Trust me if I knew how to meet George in person I wouldn't be posting for everyone else. Wouldn't be sitting here typing either. I couldn't go to where he might be walking by, with crowds of people, what would the sense in that be? If I meet him ever it would have to be a lot less people. As much as I love George, what good would an autograph be? I realize if we met it would mean nothing to him.
But hay a girl can dream.

Although my ideal dream would be meeting George, I've been fortunate to meet a few celebrities. As a New Yorker, just wandering in the theatre district after seeing a play had the luck of running into Nathan Hale walking his dog between shows. Met Shirley Booth in a restaurant once.
Working as Secretary for the National Horse Show, I met William Shatner who was showing one of his horses, and also Paul Newman whose daughter was riding in the show.
Steven Segal lived not too far from us for a while and we'd run into him at the local Video store.
When I was a teenager (long ago), I met Vic Damone, a popular singer at the time, not as famous as Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett but pretty famous. His aunt worked with my mother. Back then that was a thrill - I guess the equivalent of meeting George would be today.
You never know when that dream can come true. But you know, I never asked any of those celebrities for an autograph - conversation was a much greater memory.

You only images where Clooney is on it! Why are you doing something? So my profile picture is real. The picture I took with my web camera about 4 months ago! It would be really nice if one of you sees your correct images so you can also see who is writing to whom!

People tend to idealize celebrities. They often project their own wishes and feelings onto them and create an image which is not real.
And they don't want to see how these people really are, they want to look up to their heroes.

Where I live , the shopping district is very limited and you often meet people from the media, famous actors, musicians or politicians walking on the street and doing their business like everybody else.
The good thing about is that so people became used to see them and do not freak out when it happens.
It is nothing unusual here to see a famous actor at Burger King for example and none of the adults would ever bother him, only teenagers do eventually when they are hysterical.
So usually, if you see somebody famous here, you just walk on and mind your own business.
It only happened one time to me, that I met an actor who is famous for his sense of humour and he's at my age, when I looked at him I just smiled all over my face and he smiled back at me, then I walked away.

But I'm not talking about stars who are in the league of George or Brangelina, they might cause some trouble too, because of the photographers following them.

And when I met George, I would sincerely get red in the face after being so cheeky in this forum here....

Dear Dior, I share your opinion when you say you wouldn't run after a celebrity. I cannot imagine myself in a crowd of people, screaming simply because one person passed by. I would also never wait for an actor in front of a hotel or similar, because in this way, I give an actor much more credit than she/he deserves.

The way I see it, a celebrity is also a human being, just like we are. There are many people deserving a "celebrity status" much more than actors: scientists, inventors, doctors, lawyers, authors and many others, when they truly make a difference by discovering a cure for a disease, invent new avenues for human development etc. Usually, the greatest minds in our society are the humblest and it is very easy to meet them in person.

This is why I suggested meetings on an equal level, in a civilized manner - gatherings with fans where you can actually talk with Mr. Clooney.

They're human beings with faults, weaknesses, insecurities as well.
Mere mortals, albeit successful ones. Not demi-deities as promoted by the media causing or encouraging mass hysteria.

In the contemporary cult of celebrities, the media has created the phenomenon of revering fame & fortune through fascination with their lifestlyles. Promoting them as cultural leaders setting standards.

When meeting celebrities, people who aren't in the "public eye" or famous should show respect & keep their distance.

And if given opportunity to meet or casually greet them, then show the utmost same level of behavior & cordiality that they would extend to other individuals.

Overall, I wish to add that there is no need to meet celebrities we admire unless we had valid reason to do so.
Just to tell them how much you care is a sentiment they probably would appreciate, but hear thousands of times per year.
