Quincy Jones, Michael Caine toasted at birthday benefit
If only I had $200,000 Oh well. If I'm not mistaken George's operation was near the brain stem. Thank you God.

Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Bono and Patti Austin sang in honor of the music impresario and storied British actor.
LAS VEGAS — Birthday parties don't get much grander than this: 2,000 well-heeled guests ranging from Babyface to Will Smith, dinner prepared by chefs Wolfgang Puck and Gordon Ramsay, bottomless glasses of Dom Perignon, and Stevie Wonder singing Happy Birthday.
Quincy Jones and Michael Caine, born within minutes of each other on opposite sides of the Atlantic, celebrated their 80th birthdays as honorees of a lavish benefit Saturday night at the MGM Grand.
The "celestial twins" were toasted by singers, musicians, comedians and actors during Keep Memory Alive's 17th Power of Love Gala, a fundraiser for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, which battles such neurodegenerative brain diseases as Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases, multiple sclerosis, ALS and memory disorders.
The Oscar-winning British actor, born on March 14, 1933, in London, and the storied producer, musician and band leader, born the same day in Chicago, have been close friends since 1969. A few weeks after more quietly observing their 80th birthdays, the two were treated to an evening of accolades and songs from family, friends and admirers.
Amy Poehler talked about Jones' work with Frank Sinatra on 1966's Sinatra at The Sands, "the greatest live album of all time, with apologies to Peter Frampton," and the crooner's classic Fly Me to the Moon. She introduced a "sonic astronaut," U2's Bono, who sang I've Got You Under My Skin and an abbreviated Fly Me with a big band led by Greg Phillinganes.
Jennifer Hudson turned in a soaring Somewhere, a Jones favorite. Chaka Khan delivered a rousing Alfie in a nod to one of Caine's most memorable roles.
Michael Jackson's hit Man in the Mirror was revived by Snoop Lion, Jason Derulo, Jordin Sparks and the song's co-writer, Siedah Garrett.
Jones compositions Walking in Space and Killer Joe were reinvigorated by a crack ensemble that included Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Tom Scott, Marcus Miller, Vinnie Colaiuta and Paulinho Da Costa and Patti Austin.
Austin returned to join James Ingram for a duet, How Do You Keep the Music Playing?
Bebe Winans sang In the Heat of the Night, and Wonder and Nikki Yanofsky sang Let the Good Times Roll. The night's only musical letdown: Barbra Streisand, listed in the program, was a no-show.
Chris Tucker and Arsenio Hall injected humor into the proceedings. Whoopi Goldberg, whom Jones cast in the movie The Color Purple, said, "Has anyone on this earth ever been cooler for longer than Quincy Jones?"
She summoned Jones and Caine to the stage for the presentation of a gigantic cake.
Jones told the audience, "I can't imagine my life without any of you in it. This is about loving, laughing, living and giving. That's what life is about ... You make my soul smile."
He spoke at length, prompting Caine to interrupt several times and finally quip, "I've got the night off." When Jones wrapped up, Caine looked at the TelePrompter and dryly noted, "It says, 'Ad lib.' "
Will.i.am introduced the finale, an all-star We Are the World.
The fundraiser featured silent and live auctions. Bidders shelled out $650,000 for a week on Steve Wynn's yacht and $200,000 for dinner with George Clooney.
