The evolution of George's teeth Empty The evolution of George's teeth

Post by Katiedot Sat 18 Dec 2010, 15:48

It's no secret that George has had his teeth done a couple of times over the years. From possible veneers to maybe caps to definite whitening to suspected laser treatment to oh-my-god-it's-scaring-the-children, I thought I'd try to post a pictorial pean to George's pearlies. Yes, foreign words and alliteration - what are things coming to on this site?!

This is how I think his dentist first saw him (photo circa 2000?)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Celebitchy mentions that it's possible George was self-conscious of his teeth because he often poses with a closed-lipped smile. I thought "what a load of nonsense" until I tried googling pictures of George smiling, and in most of his older publicity shots his teeth are well hidden. So perhaps Celebitchy has a point.

Anyhoo, his front teeth were uneven (the left front one was at a slight angle), something like this:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

By April 2008, he'd had the front teeth straightened out and then whitened and what looks like a full set of veneers put in. One dentist suggested he'd had laser treatment cutting away the gum to show more of the tooth. Ouch!

Post by PigLove Sun 02 Jan 2011, 20:41

Okay, I'm dredging up this topic because based on what I saw today of GTC's chompers, I have to say that I HATE THEM. They are far too white, and they look like dentures.

Which, of course, makes him look OLD. And I do not like that, because he is NOT OLD. Do you think he can have the veneers taken off? Or is it too late?

I don't know anything about veneers, but my dentures (long dental history - boring) actually made me look younger. But, I agree with George's teeth - tooooooo white and kinda fake. albino

It must be so hard to be an aging heart throb. I think GTC is aging really well (so is Brad), but you can never guess what will happen to someone's face over time. I see myself in the mirror sometimes and gasp. And my wrinkles don't even affect my earning potential!

On the TV Guide Channel yesterday, they had Sexiest Movie Actors and Sexiest TV Actors (actresses too). George was #5 on Movie Actor (Brad was #2) and #2 in TV Actor (Tom Selleck #1). He looks haggared at times, but for the most part, still dresses up quite nice. I think it's been mentioned that he has definitely "aged" over the last 2-3 years for whatever reason. lol

Random mention of George:

Straits Times

Health: It’s all in your smile

2011/04/11

SUZANNA PILLAY

Traditional braces helped perfect singer Gwen Stefani’s smile George Clooney’s improved smile
Wendy LeeIt’s important to have a good set of teeth as it can boost your confidence and plays a major role in positive image management, writes SUZANNA PILLAY

DO not judge a book by its cover, it is often said, but unfortunately our perception of people is often made on their physical appearance. Facial expressions can communicate a person’s emotions and impact their approachability and popularity factor.

One of the clearest signs of a happy, friendly person is one who is smiling and, as we all know, a person who is nice to be around is always popular. A sourpuss is not going to win any fans.

A person who is uncomfortable about how his or her teeth looks is unlikely to be smiling because of lack of confidence, and will make other people uneasy.

This is why in customer service and hospitality careers, a friendly smile is important.

“You have less than a few seconds to make a good first impression on those you come into contact with. Teeth are one of the first things a person sees when they look at you. How your teeth look can make or break a sale or you. Your perceived level of attractiveness by other people will be a significant benefit or detriment in your career and your life. It isn’t fair, but it is true,” said Wendy Lee, professional image consultant, Chapter One Asia Sdn Bhd.

Bad teeth can make or break a career. This is especially true in professions that require face-to-face interaction with customers — sales and customer service especially, or the acting or modelling industries where looking good is imperative, she said.

“Study after study reveals that how you look is critical to someone’s first impression of you. You can’t change everything about your physical appearance but you can definitely make changes that will give you a booster shot.

“Your teeth will tell a tale. If your teeth are yellow and look like you just ate, your face value will be greatly reduced. You need to do everything you can to keep your teeth pearly white and you will be perceived to be more attractive.”

People constantly in the public eye such as actors, models, celebrities and public figures also need to have good teeth and it’s a fact that many celebrities have had dental makeovers to improve their looks. Examples are American actor George Clooney, and English singer Noel Gallagher.

Clooney had porcelain veneers and crowns to improve his smile
, while Gallagher had teeth whitening and dental surgery to improve their smiles.

Britain’s Prince Harry and American singer Gwen Stefani, on the other hand, opted for braces to straighten their teeth and to improve their smiles.
Why is it so important for public figures such as these to have that perfect set of teeth?

“Research studies tell us that the exposure principle increases our face value.

Specifically, the exposure principle says that the more often you are seen by someone, the more attractive and intelligent you appear to them. For celebrities and public figures where they are being watched at all times, it is even more critical to look as good as they possibly can on every given day. And having a good set of teeth is a major part of positive image management,” said Lee.

If you are concerned about the state of your teeth and would like to get some advice on what to do before committing yourself to anything, go get a free checkup by a professional dentist, courtesy of Colgate’s Oral Health Month.

This is the eighth year that Colgate-Palmolive, with the support of the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA), is offering free dental check-ups at its Oral Health month marquees nationwide to promote oral health awareness. This year’s theme is Our Mission: Zero Cavities.

Apart from free advice and dental check-ups, free Colgate products will also be distributed to participants.

11. It is certainly no secret that George Clooney has had a bit of cosmetic dental work done. The actor has reportedly undergone more than $30,000 worth of dental surgery over the years. Porcelain veneers were also on Clooney’s list of things to do. A teeth grinding habit left Clooney with a crooked smile for many years. Porcelain veneers were used to lengthen the teeth that Clooney had ground down and a laser treatment was done on his gums in order to expose more of his natural teeth.

Then he did what he needed to do to repair the damage he had done to his teeth. Vanity doesn't really come into play in that situation and neither does getting older. People cap their teeth to protect what they have rather than have them removed and wear dentures.

George Clooney has invested $30,000 (£15,000) on giving his dashing Hollywood smile a revamp, according to a new report.

The actor's blinding pearly-white gnashers - on display at the Costume Institute Gala in New York earlier this month - are reportedly the result of extensive dental surgery.

The evolution of George's teeth Empty Re: The evolution of George's teeth

Post by Katiedot Tue 13 Dec 2011, 13:49

Just found this and thought it might be interesting:

From flaxdental.com

March 11th, 2009

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Not that he needed alot of help in being more attractive, Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney , who is rated a “10″ by most women, had a smile makeover in the past year that makes him look more energetic and more youthful.

Worn, shorter and yellow teeth shown in the photos below gave George ( a.k.a. Dr. Doug Ross) a more aged appearance. Without a doubt his improved smile is a great accessory to his image.

Usually when a smile ages like this, it is a sign of bite imbalances and/or the effects of grinding. Looks like George got some excellent help rebuilding the edges of lost enamel with porcelain veneers or crowns, possibly some laser care for his gums, and hopefully treating the cause first with some bite therapy.

Certainly ER becomes more important with Dr. Doug on the show tonight–giving all of us (especially George Clooney) plenty of more reasons to smile.

Keep smiling right,

Hugh

No It's Me, that article was from 2009. I've just found it now and posted it here.

I really don't understand the criticism of George having his teeth fixed. He can well afford the $30,000. I know many "average" people who spend enormous amounts of money to whiten, straighten, cap, veneer their teeth. They do it for many reasons, to regain their bite, to regain their self-confidence, to look better when they smile. I hope that no one is equating this to plastic surgery done just for vanity's sake.

As I was looking at the pics and watched the interviews from Oz, it looks as if he maybe had a "touch up" of his teeth. They seem a little brighter than some of the pics from just a few weeks ago.

Yeah Right

As long as he doesn't show up with a mouth full of Chicklets, a little cosmetic dentistry should be no biggie. lol
