I heart Waldo. A nice side benefit to hanging with GTC must be all his lovely men friends playing sweaty basketball for your viewing pleasure.

Betty probably doesn't even appreciate that the way I would.

That could be Waldo it is his height and build. He is usually the key hairdresser on George's movies so more then likely it is. My first thought was that it was him.

Clooney filming shifts Downtown
10:00 PM, Feb. 15, 2011

Maureen Wilke of Anderson Township brought her binoculars in hopes of spying George Clooney shooting his movie Downtown Tuesday.

She wasn't disappointed.

"I can scratch him off my bucket list now! I saw him," Wilke said Thursday afternoon as she watched Clooney prepare to shoot a scene with actor Ryan Gosling outside Head First Sports Café at 218 W. Third St.

About 100 people gathered to see the Oscar-winning actor film potential scenes for "The Ides Of March." He is directing and acting in the movie.

A big cheer could be heard when he arrived about 1:20 p.m., and when he smiled at the crowd.

Police blocked Third Street for about 3 hours and diverted traffic up Elm Street.

Bigger traffic headaches were created Tuesday morning in Mount Lookout Square, when Clooney's crew shot inside The Stand, a cozy bar/club at 3195 Linwood Ave.

After filming mostly exteriors last week, shooting with actors started Monday morning. A scene was shot near Saks Fifth Avenue downtown, then production moved for most of Monday to Lunken Airport.

Clooney had personally scouted the city's East side airport for his film about Democratic Gov. Mike Morris campaigning in the presidential primaries. Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Ted Kennedy and other politicians have used Lunken.

Most of the scenes Thursday afternoon centered on Gosling, who plays the main character, Morris press aide Stephen Myers. "The Ides of March" was adapted from a play written by Gov. Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign press aide.

But Wilke and other spectators along Third Street mostly were interested in Clooney, arguably the most famous Augusta High School graduate and Northern Kentucky University drop-out.

Wilke, who works for Great American Insurance in the Dixie Terminal building, first heard about Clooney's location from an office intern's Twitter message. When she called the bar, Wilke was told that Clooney was on his way. So was Wilke.

"Cher was on my bucket list, and I saw her in Vegas. Someone gave us box seats that cost like $575. But this was much better," she said.

Fans flock to local areas to catch Actor George Clooney in action
Posted: 02/15/2011

CINCINNATI - It's not everyday you get to see an Academy Award winning actor on the streets of Cincinnati, but some local fans flocked to different areas to see George Clooney filming his new movie.

The hometown actor, who is directing his new film "The Ides of March", took a moment for a coffee break in between scenes right outside of Headfirst Cafe on 3rd Street downtown.

9 News caught up with some local fans who wanted to see the actor in person and not just on the big screen.

"I may have seen the top of his head," said Anderson Twp. resident Lisa Czerwonka. "It was pretty far away and I'm not exactly sure, but I'm going to be optimistic and assume that I did see him."

Production crews moved to Mount Lookout Square Tuesday afternoon to continue filming.

The movie is about a democratic governor campaigning in the presidential primaries. Czerwonka and her co-worker, Christin French, say it was exciting to see all the behind the scenes action

"We took 30 minutes out of our day to George Clooney watch," said French. "We're just on our lunch break, don't tell our bosses. We just wanted to get a peak of George Clooney and Ryan Gosling. I think Marissa Tomei is also in the movie, see I'm so nervous, I can't even stand up."

Next month, Clooney and his crew will make their way to Detroit and to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to shoot several scenes.

Until then, you may just catch the Academy Award winning actor on the streets of the Tri-State.

George Clooney is 'God's gift to women'

George Clooney as "God's gift to women."

Dear George Clooney,
I know you are in Cincinnati this month to film your movie, "Ides of March." And let me stress, I am not a stalker. I am a happily married mother of two beautiful daughters who had an opportunity to study acting with you at Northern Kentucky University years ago and gave it all up to pursue the noble profession of newspaper reporting.
And I'm not at all bitter about any of that.
Besides, as handsome as you are, I wouldn't trade my husband and babies for anything.
So, George, it never would have worked out between us. (And not just because you seem to be drawn more to the "supermodel" type.) Don't give it another thought.
But I might be one of the very few people in the Greater Cincinnati region who feels this way. Radio stations have listeners calling in to announce your crews' locations throughout the week. Crowds gather everywhere you film to steal a glimpse.
And, in perhaps the most artful display of admiration you will ever encounter filming a movie anywhere, a marble gift manufacturer in Over-the-Rhine has created a large mural of a naked you that he has installed outside on his studio's walls facing Memorial Hall where he heard you'd be filming.
Look across the street, George.
Mark Schmidt, the owner of Studio Vertu, heard that you would be filming at Memorial Hall, less than 50 yards from his studio.
So, naturally, Schmidt decided to recreate Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting, "The Creation," substituting your head for Adam's.
"I call it, 'God's gift to women,'" Schmidt said in a news release.
The mural is printed on 33 eight-inch by eight-inch Bottocino marble tiles.
"Of course I hope he sees it," Schmidt said in the release. "And I think it would look great in his villa on Lake Como. He is welcome to have it, but I, of course, would have to install it."
Studio Vertu is located at 1208 Central Parkway, a half block south of Music Hall. The mural is on Grant Street on the side of the building.
If you want to see more of Schmidt's work, click here.
Yours truly, in a purely platonic "I admire your acting skills" kind of way,
Lucy

Clooney Watch continues in Cincinnati, new videos and photos from the set of ‘The Ides of March’

We found a few more videos of George Clooney filming The Ides Of March in Cincinnati over the past week or so. There’s also a cute picture he took with students on the campus of Xavier University where they were shooting yesterday (he’s in the back, might have squint to find him!). Its hard not to get caught up in Clooney Watch, even for those of us who aren’t in Cincy!

If you’re looking for George and company today, they are filming downtown (around 3rd and Elm). If you spot him, let us know about it at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]!

Latest Clooney sighting is at Fourth and Plum
Submitted by Richard Todd, Reporter
Thursday, February 17th, 7:35 pm

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - George Clooney and his movie crew turned up at Fourth and Plum Street in Downtown Cincinnati Thursday.

The shooting at that location involved a vehicle leaving the area in typical Hollywood fashion, with screeching tires. The sound could be heard as Clooney watched a replay of the scene, seemingly happy with the results.

Clooney was surrounded by a good number of crew numbers, with good number of spectators as well. Most looked pretty happy.

In the film Clooney is making, "The Ides of March", he plays a governor who is running for U.S. President.

This shoot was only a block or two away from the Head First Sports Cafe, where they were shooting the previous day.

It's his third visit in three weeks! George Clooney, stopping into Morton's the Steakhouse in Cincinnati, where the actor is filming his new movie, The Ides of March. Clooney once again visited with his producer friend Grant Heslov, and was very friendly to his servers, thanking them and the kitchen staff on his way out.

Clooney sighting

I haven’t been keeping track here of all the restaurants George Clooney and his movie star friends have been patronizing . . . but apparently last night he was with his parents at the very last night for The Beehive Tavern in Augusta. The elder Clooneys are regular patrons, as they live a few blocks away. I guess if you’re going to close, it’s a good way to go out.

AUGUSTA, Ky. - The Beehive Tavern in Augusta, Ky. closed its doors Saturday after 25 years of business.

The establishment was a Clooney family favorite. George Clooney was spotted there Saturday with family on the restaurant’s last day of operation.

The restaurant decided to close after what owners said was a "devastating winter," as the economy took a toll on the Northern Kentucky restaurant.

The Beehive Tavern is located on the corner of Main Street and Riverside Drive along the Ohio River.

George Clooney still the same good guy

CINCINNATI - He was sitting at an unadorned banquet table with young members of the film crew, posing for pictures with others who gained entrance to the inner sanctum. Though that isn't a fair portrayal of George Clooney's lunch break during filming of "The Ides of March".

That would suggest a phalanx of security personnel and assorted body men, assigned to keep the public at bay.

As I approached Memorial Hall, scene of Tuesday's work, an acquaintance on the production staff asked, "You seen George yet? He's right inside eating lunch." Which I took as an invitation to go inside.

Where I found him at the aforementioned table, catching up with Pete Harpen, his grade school chum from when the Clooneys lived in Mason. Harpen recognized me but George, who hasn't laid eyes on me since I had dark hair and a mustache needed a second take. He jumped up and gave me a bear hug, nearly toppling the UC hat he was wearing.

It wasn't long before Clooney asked about the Bearcats: "Are they gonna make it? I know they had that nice win over Louisville but will that be enough?" Clooney is an old 'hooper' himself in case you didn't know. In fact he severely sprained an ankle on the set of I believe it was "ER" years ago. That slowed him down sufficiently that a limp had to be written into the script.

We moved on to the Reds prospects for 2011 and he was ecstatic to hear of Bob Castellini's determination to return a consistent winner to the Tri-State. Clooney has more than a passing interest in the baseball. He went so far as to attend a Reds tryout camp many years ago but was apprised of some shortcomings; speed, power and arm strength.

Of course his mom and dad, Nina and Nick came up, along with his sister Ada and her children, George's niece and nephew. The former being a source of consternation because of what we'll term an unconventional academic arc.

To think that a man at the center of a major film production, surrounded by literally hundreds of professionals going about the business of making a feature length motion picture, is sitting with a grade school pal, expressing concern about his niece speaks volumes to the kind of guy George is.

He said it's great to be back in the area and able to navigate its traffic intricacies with the deft knowledge of a near native. One of whom we should all be very proud and for reasons beyond his notoriety but which have been facilitated by that fame. I thanked him for his commitment to making things better with his efforts in the Sudan, for bringing the "Ides" production to Cincinnati and finally for the warm hospitality extended someone he hasn't seen in 20 years.

My uncanny sense of timing goaded me into taking my leave. "George, I'll let you get back to work. All the best to you and your family" "DJ, great to see you, thanks for stopping by", he replied.

What went unsaid by me was "George, it is wonderful to see that you haven't changed a bit."

The younger woman in the photo sitting across from GC looks a little like a younger version of Nina,I wonder if they are related?

I thought exactly the same thing, Lucy. Isn't she the girl with the red scarf from the outdoor family photos. The one we thought was Ada's daughter for a bit? Maybe she's another relative -- on the Warren side? Very pretty!

Before most commuters came to work in the Fifth Third Bank tower, a small army had rolled movie cameras and carts filled with everything from cables to coffee onto Fountain Square.

Eight big trucks arrived about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday along Vine and Fifth streets so the Tyler Davidson Fountain could play a background role in George Clooney's "The Ideas of March" film.

What may be only a fleeting few minutes in the movie required about 40 crew members, a couple of dozen extras, and a mobile studio with two cameras, four flat-screen monitors, and dozens of push carts packed with poles, paint, plywood, portable heaters, tripods, tape, rakes and brooms.

By 11:15 a.m. - or just 4½ hours - and well before the lunch crowd arrived - Clooney and his crew, the trucks and traffic cones were in Northern Kentucky for another shoot.

"It was amazing to see just how fast they set up, and how quickly they got out of here," said Odell Neal, 61, a Fountain Square security officer from North College Hill.

Not only are area residents getting a taste of Hollywood glamor with Clooney and his movie stars in town, they're also seeing how much time - and stuff - it takes to make a movie. And they're getting a feel for the economic impact of a major motion picture.

The 75 or so spectators watching Clooney direct a scene with star Ryan Gosling on a pay phone near the famous fountain didn't see the additional five trailers and three trucks parked next to the Millennium hotel, two blocks away.

They may not have realized that Clooney needed two hours to film one scene from various angles.

Shortly after he arrived about 8:15 a.m., the Oscar-winning actor scoped out a wide shot, which included the fountain and a WLWT-TV news truck on Vine Street loaned to the film by Channel 5.

Next he filmed extras walking while people skated on the ice rink left up an extra week for the movie.

About 9:10 a.m., actors Gosling and co-star Paul Giamatti appeared next to Clooney near the dual screen monitors. Gosling plays a first-time press aide for a Democratic governor (Clooney) running for president; Giamatti plays a rival campaign manager.

For 75 minutes, cameras captured Gosling on the fake pay phone installed for the movie. Between takes, production staffers raked the sand under the phone stand.

Gosling's two-minute phone conversation was shot from his left and right sides, from down low and eye level.

All the "coverage" shots will "move viewers into and through the scene," explains Chris Strobel, a Northern Kentucky University associate professor who teaches digital cinema courses.

"You start with a wide shot, and then you might need five, six or seven different angles of his face," Strobel says.

Strobel has been impressed by the pace of the filming at 26 locations in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

"A really good day for a film on the scale of 'The Ides of March' would be more than four minutes of finished screen time per day. Getting two or three minutes a day is pretty normal," he says.

Clooney, Gosling and Giamatti left the square at 10:25 a.m. All the equipment was gone a half-hour later - except for the fake pay phone.

"If you've got the budget, you're able to move in and move out quickly. More hands make it move fast," Strobel says.

Clooney will film in this area at least another week before production moves to Michigan the week of March 14.

The Miami University newspaper reported last week he will be in Oxford Tuesday-Thursday, with 500-600 students needed as extras on "Green Beer Day" Thursday.
