Golden Globe winner Argo to get home release
added: 20 Jan 2013 // by: Film-News.co.uk Newsdesk
Golden Globe winner (Best Picture and Director) ARGO will be released on DVD and Blu-ray (including Ultraviolet), on Monday 4th March.
Hollywood and high-stakes espionage collide in “Argo,” arriving onto Blu-ray and DVD on 4th March. Based on the declassified true story which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six American Embassy personnel focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played.
Academy Award® winner Ben Affleck (“The Town,” “Good Will Hunting”) directs and stars in the film, which is produced by Oscar® nominee Grant Heslov (“Good Night, and Good Luck”), Affleck, and Oscar® winner George Clooney (“Syriana”). “Argo” also stars Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), Oscar® winner Alan Arkin (“Little Miss Sunshine”) and John Goodman (“Trouble with the Curve”).
“Argo” will be available on Blu-ray for £24.99 and on DVD for £15.99. Both the Blu-ray and the DVD releases include an UltraViolet digital copy allowing consumers to download and instantly stream the standard definition theatrical version of the film to a wide range of devices including computers and compatible tablets, smartphones, game consoles, Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players.*
On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor (Garber). Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez (Affleck), to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Watched the Blu ray at last and thoroughly enjoyed the film.
I thought it was similar to watching a documentary at times as
it was so authentic. The camera work and editing were brilliant !
Also there is a feeling of understated tension throughout the scenes in Iran which is a credit to the actors and director.....no "Gung Ho" emotionalism in sight !
One scene did bring tears....
There are some good extras on the disc, including the
actual people's memories of those days.

Yep. Wonderful, isn't it? You know how it ends, but...........wow!
Now seen it twice in the cinema, and how they've managed the suspense is awe-inspiring

Funnily enough, although I knew the ending hubby had no idea,
so he was very keyed up.
Going to watch it again with the eye witness commentary on next.

i bought this and watched the blue ray on friday night, what an amazing film, i didnt know much of the story and also didnt know how it would end, i made of point of not fineding out as i wanted to see the film first then look in to it in more detail and i have to say from start to finish my heart was in my mouth as i really wasnt sure if they would get out. Like someone mentioned some of it was like a documentary but that was needed to help understand what was going on, i also liked the way they used original footage in the film. an incredible film, well deserved oscars

Yes Picachu, that was a good idea of yours to come to the film fresh with no prior knowledge. Even though I did know, I was still tense towards the end, which is a credit to all concerned.

Oooh, is there a director's commentary? Would love to hear Ben's thoughts on making the film.

I honestly can't remember all of the special features, there are quite a few and very interesting too.
I spotted the heading "witness commentary" and having listened to them with their own memories will listen to that next.
