Is George Clooney launching a new brand of tequila?

Post by Katiedot on Thu Mar 15 2012, 22:26

Filing this under "journalist fantasy" but anyway. Thanks Henway for the find:

From [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

George Clooney is teaming up with Cindy Crawford's restaurateur husband Rande Gerber to serve up a new tequila line.

Clooney and the nightlife impresario have joined forces to make their favorite off-the-market tipple more accessible to fans.

The pair has opted to name the product Casamigos, and Gerber insists he and his new business partner plan on making the liquor available to all.

He tells 213Nightlife.com, "I don’t think we’re going to be following all the rules. We know we have a product we love and we drink, and other people will enjoy. The product speaks for itself."

it's a quote by my first 'father in law' - father of my puppy love Michael

for example:
you can quit smoking or drinking

but the number of vices is constantly - you will 'find' another vice instead - I think it's very calming Smile

From: Recipe.com
George Clooney to Give Tequila a Shot

George Clooney already has an Academy Award on his shelf and a slew of Oscar nominations under his belt. So why shouldn’t he succeed in the tequila biz, too?

As the New York Daily News reports, the Descendents actor (not to mention Facts of Life alum) will soon be launching Casamigos, a brand of Mexican tequila he’s starting with his buddy Rande Gerber (that’s Mr. Cindy Crawford to us).

The duo will join the likes of Dan Akryod (vodka), Vince Neil (tequila), Drew Barrymore (wine), Willie Nelson (bourbon), Justin Timberlake (tequila), Donald Trump (vodka) and Ludacris (cognac) in taking a — ahem — shot at the spirits game.

Gerber tells 213nightlife.com, the Los Angeles bar and restaurant website, that the chums plan to sell the tequila, named for their homes in Mexico, at a “reasonable price point.”

“I don’t think we’re going to be following all the rules,” Gerber tells the site. “We know we have a product we love and we drink, and other people will enjoy. The product speaks for itself.”

But, really, it doesn’t hurt to have George Clooney speaking for it either, now, does it?

You bring the salt, we’ll bring the limes. Clooney is pouring.

Tequila Easter Cookies

1 cup of water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup of brown sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit

1 bottle tequila

Sample the tequila in a large glass to check quality.

Take a large bowl, and check the tequila again, to be sure
it is of the highest quality. Pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in
a large fluffy bowl.

Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point, it’s best to make sure the tequila is still OK,
so, try another cup.

Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup
of dried fruit.

Pick the frigging fruit and the damn cup off the floor.

Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers,
just pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something.

Check the tequila.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.

Don’t forget to beat off the turner.

Put the bowl through the window, finish off the booze
and make sure to put the dirty stove in the dishwasher.

EASTY HAPPER TO ALL!

An update here:

Celebrities Latest to Get Swept Up in Tequila Making Craze

Celebrities and their enthusiasms—it seems there are no bounds. In addition to being great looking, rich and getting to travel around the world at will, they also love to launch brands—and spirits are the hottest moneymakers.

But one current celeb craze comes in the form of a beverage near and dear to the hearts of many Mexicans—tequila.

While many in Hollywood went old school backing wine labels, a few celebs have taken the less traveled and trendier path with tequila.

Rock 'n' roll legend Sammy Hagar launched his Cabo Wabo tequila in 1996, hitching his wagon to a tequila-making family with over 80 years of experience.

Motely Crue front man Vince Neil (of Mexican decent), launched his Tres Rios Silver tequila in 2007 with a marketing blitz--selling his new tequila, publishing a book about his life titled, " Tattoos & Tequila: To Hell and Back with One of Rock's Most Notorious Frontmen" (written by himself and co-authored by Mike Sager), as well as releasing his third solo album, titled "Tattoos & Tequila"

In 2010, Justin Timberlake launched 901 Tequila – named after the area code of his hometown, Memphis. He chose the Tequilera Newton distillery in Jalisco, Mexico to help transform a 60 year-old recipe into 901.

And the latest “jimador” is George Clooney. Working with restaurant mogul Rande Gerber, husband of Cindy Crawford, Clooney and Gerber are rumored to launch their Casamigos tequila sometime next year. The label is named after houses the two own in Mexico.

Put a celeb's face on anything and you might be able to sell a bit more. But talk to the tequila experts and real connoisseurs, and they’ll tell you, that unless tequila making is your life’s passion, then anyone can slap a label on a bottle.

David Nava, the LatAm branch manager for Anchor Distilling, and Chinaco Tequila, one of the oldest and well respected in the spirits world, says it wasn’t until 1983 that people in the US even began to drink real tequila.

People are realizing how agave, like grapes, change with age--it’s very artistic. Also, it’s earth driven because it takes years for an agave plant to develop and the complexity is very interesting to people.
- David Nava, the LatAm branch manager for Anchor Distilling, and Chinaco Tequila
“Before that it was simply a Mixto—a mix of half agave and the rest, sugar and additives. Which is why most people who tasted tequila in the US before the more luxury brands were imported here, thought the liquor was so terrible,” Nava says.

Mexican law states that tequila isn’t tequila unless it comes from one of these five states in Mexico—Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Tamaulipas, AND must be 100% pure blue Agave. Much like Champagne isn’t champagne unless it comes from that region in France. Mexico even holds the exclusive international right to the word "tequila;" threatening legal action against manufacturers of distilled blue agave spirits in other countries.

The art of making tequila goes back to the Aztecs. The legend says a bolt of lightning tore into the heart of an agave plant, lighting its piña on fire, causing the nectar inside to spill out. The natives regarded this as a gift from the gods. Over time, the drink (a fermented agave which they called octli and later pulque), became essential in ceremonies and celebrations—producing "a state of euphoria in priests, warriors and the wise."

Making tequila is hard work. And there are only a couple of ways of doing it, the traditional method or “artisanal process.” Artisanal custom is to crush the cooked agave using a stone wheel called a “tahona," which is pulled by a mule or ox. The more modern method uses machines—obviously faster and more efficient.

“Tequila is an attractive and romantic venture. People are realizing how agave, like grapes, change with age--it’s very artistic. Also, it’s earth driven because it takes years for an agave plant to develop and the complexity is very interesting to people. Vodka has no character,” Nava says.

Although no one can say exactly how much involvement a celebrity has in making their own tequila brand, Nava suspects that most celebs probably go to contract house distilleries, where maybe 150 brands of tequilas are produced, and design a pretty label, put it on a really pretty bottle and call it a day.

George Clooney and Rande Gerber's Casamigos tequila GENERAL THREAD

Post by lelacorb on Sun Jan 06 2013, 07:58

Clooney’s tequila team

Longtime friends George Clooney and Rande Gerber are going on a road trip to launch their own spirit brand, Casamigos Tequila. We’ve exclusively learned the pair have teamed up with Discovery Land Company’s Mike Meldman to meet with high-end spirit executives nationwide. Sources tell us the three will be making stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas and Miami in advance of a national rollout later this month. A source said: “George and Rande came up with the idea of creating their own house tequila years ago when they both built houses in Mexico. They have been working with a master distiller ever since to create the ultimate blend. The tequila was supposed to just be for them and their friends, but after the success of Rande’s Caliche Rum, they decided to go for it.” The trip, which starts tomorrow, comes at a busy time for Clooney, who has to attend the People’s Choice Awards before he heads to Germany to begin working on his next movie, “The Monuments Men,” alongside Cate Blanchett and Bill Murray.http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/clooney_tequila_team_uSFfFp4a3Gn6tea9K2uc5O[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

He could send his promo girl for this promo tour, couldn´t he?

Not sure what to think about this tequila thing. hmmm.

How about if he owned a wineyard, winery, own place for producing wine? A lot of work sure, but when it would be time to pick those grapes he would just say it´s open house and any volunteer is welcome to help! His wineyard would be packed with people busy collecting the grapes and helping to taste the products... Very Happy Location Italy of course.

I don't know about all of you but this "road trip" to promote the tequilla sounds suspiciously like the road trips George takes with his buddies.

Could they possibly be renting an RV then going from LA to Las Vegas, Dallas and Miami? Hmmm, I'll bet the golf clubs are going along. Cause really, how long could these tequila meetings actually take each day?
