A year without George
Einstein posted this article on Twiiter. Apparently this will be the first year since 1995 that George has not graced the silver screen.

Have you noticed? The seven-time Oscar nominee, one-time winner has been nowhere to be seen on the big screen in 2012. Maybe you haven’t even been aware of the absence of George Clooney, what with his near constant presence on the worldwide charity scene, hosting Democratic presidential fundraising events and tabloid cover stories screaming the latest rumors of a Clooney-Keibler contretemps.
But after the fourth quarter one-two punch in 2011 of The Descendants and The Ides of March (of which he also directed, co-produced and co-wrote), the thinking man’s (woman’s) matinee idol took a powder, at least in the cineplexes. His next movie, Alfonso Cuarón‘s sci-fi drama Gravity, is set for release on a yet to be determined date in 2013.
Maybe this doesn’t worry you. Maybe you think Clooney deserves a break … or we need one from him. The thing is, though, 2012 will go down as the first year since the former The Facts of Life co-star (Sure, I could have gone with ER. Chose not to.) became a bona fide Big Time Movie Star that he hasn’t had a single movie in theaters. Let me repeat: 1995 was the last year without a George Clooney movie. 1996 brought both From Dusk to Dawn and One Fine Day. (Of course, before that you have to go back to 1992′s The Harvest where he had the 23rd billed role of “Lip Syncing Transvestite.)
Should we worry? Is it a sign of the End Times? Did 2012 suffer for not having George Clooney in it, theatrically speaking? Is this what the Mayans were talking about?
Full disclosure #1: Clooney did appear this year in a video, 8, which dramatized the federal trial over California’s Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that amended the state’s constitution to define marriage as only valid and legal when it’s between a man and a woman.
Full disclosure #2: I’m an unabashed and rabid George Clooney fan, both on screen and off, as detailed here. Don’t think I’m making light of the situation. I miss the big lug.
And OK, he did produce Argo coming out next week from the similarly skilled Ben Affleck. He’s just not anywhere to be seen in it.

That would have been an appropriate release date since the world is going to end on Dec. 21, 2012.
