George Clooney in Ireland? Empty George gears up for bike trip around Ireland

Gorgeous George gears up for bike trip around Ireland

Friday, October 21, 2011

HIS fans always hoped that one fine day gorgeous George would come visit the land of his ancestors and finally their dreams are to come true.
George Clooney is finally coming to Ireland to take a road trip inspired by his friend Bono.

The Hollywood actor and producer, who has Irish roots on both sides of his family, told the Irish Examiner he is planning to make a road trip on his Harley Davidson next April. The trip had been planned several times, but cancelled due to other commitments, he said.

The routes he is choosing next spring were largely prompted by conversations with Bono.

"It’s finally happening," he told the Irish Examiner in Toronto. "I ran into Bono here in Toronto, who was in town for the documentary about U2 and he’s as much of a bike nut as I am. He started telling me about lots of cool places I should check out, so I’ve committed to going there in April."

The actor makes fond references to his Irish roots. His father’s great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Clooney, came from Co Kilkenny.

The name Clooney is an anglicised version of Ó Cluanaigh, which translates as a descendant of Clugnach, ironically meaning a "rogue or a flatterer", given Clooney’s reputation to be both a charmer and a practical joker. His father’s mother’s maiden name was Guilfoyle — a name common in Co Clare.

The five-time Oscar winner’s latest film, The Ides of March, opens next week.

See the full interview in tomorrow’s Weekend.

Good find! Can't you just imagine him whizzing around the countryside on his motorbike with Grant & co chasing to keep up with him?

Hope the Irish traffic police will be ready for him!

Since it's already been cancelled so many time probably going to happen again. George doesn't let people know this far in advance he is doing a bike trip. It could be a good trip for all the boys but I don't really buy this.

Post by watching Fri 21 Oct 2011, 13:57

I thought he said in an interview years back that he and the boys had done Ireland on bike whilst on a golfing holiday??

Also if he has back surgery after award season (Oscars 26/2/2012), would he be physically capable of making a bike trip? I would think the onus after surgery (if it occurs) would be to rest and recuperate and not to strain himself by being in control of a heavy Harley Davidson bike for an extended period of time. Last time he had surgery he was reportedly advised not to lift anything heavy for a three month period so the surgery could heal nice and strong - externally and internally. There were Como shots around that time of him with his buddies who where loading and unloading the boat in respect to a day on the lake and George just watching on the jetty.

Ladies, I love dogs (mainly cats, I confess) and all... But back on track.
if this awesome ride happens, it's the opportunity to tag cray cray along. She has no (major) work lined up (as far as we all know) and she would never pass the opportunity to go for the ride of her life. Remember Eli mentioning they loved to ride on the coast, etc? Cray cray will be tweeting Ireland is amazing... I am in Heaven, good things happen for good people + her Budha's and Mother Tereza 's quotes and God knows what other quotes lol!

ps: I am giving cray cray (the one) a (very short) break, as long as she doesn't talk about cleansing. I don't want to have a visual of her on the toilet... lol!

Can't workout when he is going to find time to fit in his surgery and take some time off. Last time around he had it then arranged a telethon so not so much into resting is our George. Gee LL you sure do have hope for Cray Cray besides if it's a boys trip no girls allowed no matter how much they say they are a guy's girl or whatever she is.

Celebrity biker George Clooney confirms Irish motorcycle trip
For star struck bikers who like to keep up with the gossip and tinsel-town tales about the more famous motorcycle enthusiasts, George Clooney taking a two-wheeled road trip around Ireland isn’t a new one.

But some are saying the latest version of this celebrity motorcycle tidbit has legs, or wheels so to speak.

The Hollywood icon that seems to appear in every other movie released lately is supposedly clearing his film-making schedule to take a tour of the Emerald Isle in April 2012. Reports claim that Clooney can trace his ancestors back to Ireland.

But those Irish roots are distant, his father Nick Clooney’s great greatgrandfather, Nicholas Clooney, was a native of Kilkenny.

Adding an interesting twist to the motorcycle rumor on this particular version is George Clooney’s latest love interest. Hollywood’s most famous biker has a dating MO (method of Operations) of taking his romance on two wheels, usually along the back roads of his Italian villa in Lake Como. This is where the world first learned of George’s former flame, Elisabetta Canalis.

Will his current love interest former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler?

Stacy Keibler was formally introduced to the world as George Clooney’s new lady last weekend on the red carpet.

The former WWE wrestler has been accompanying Clooney to premieres for “The Ides of March” and “The Descendants” since the Toronto Film Festival this September, but Sunday was the first time the two went really public

It was on this world tour promoting his latest movies when the world's most eligible bachelor confirmed the Irish motorcycle trip while speaking with the newspaper, the Irish Examiner, during a stop in Toronto.

To make the trip even more Irish, Clooney claims than the U2 star, Bono is advising him on his Irish itinerary.

"It’s finally happening," he said. "I ran into Bono here in Toronto, who was in town for the documentary about U2 and he’s as much of a bike nut as I am. He started telling me about lots of cool places I should check out, so I’ve committed to going there in April."

They're getting excited!

From Kilkenny People

Clooneys getting set for George’s visit

Published on Wednesday 7 December 2011 17:41

The city witnessed a gathering of Clooney clan on Sunday in advance of the imminent arrival next year of actor George Clooney to visit his Irish homestead, deep in Southn Kilkenny.

In the meantime,. Kilkenny film maker, Gabriel Murray is forginb head with his documentary on Clooney’s Irish heritage entitled, ‘George Clooney’s Irish Roots.

Dr Michael Conway placed the Hole in the Wall at the disposal of film maker Gabriel Murray who had arranged a film shoot and a series of interviews, musical performances and photographic portraits of the Abbeyleix Clooneys on Sunday afternoon. They had met Nicholas Clooney, George’s father when he visited Kilkenny two years ago and had dinner with him in the city.

Abbeyleix man Seamus Clooney and his family met fellow cousins of George Clooney, Mary Egan (Tullahought) and her daughter for the first time.

Noreen Burke Hayes, Clooney another relative, acted as co-ordinator for the event and Declan Buckley owner of the Metropole Hotel in the city disclosed that the late singer, Rosemary Clooney stayed in the hotel on her honeymoon in 1953 with her new husband Jose Ferrer. The music for the event was provided by Mick Walsh and son and from Pat Shortis. The gathering retired to Power’s of Tullahought that evening where footage of the 26 piece Tullahought Ceili Band was recorded for the documentary. Pat Power owner of Power’s pub provided the food and drinks for the occasion. Considering the detail and depth to which Gabriel Murray went in his award winning ‘Obama’s Irish Roots’ documentary, the Clooney story promises to be a cinematic triumph.

George Clooney in Ireland? Empty New song to welcome George Clooney home

Post by lolo"layla" Fri 06 Jan 2012, 10:52

Published on Thursday 5 January 2012 17:23

“Oh the girls are feeling swooney; As they welcome home George Clooney; back to Ireland and Kilkenny on his great big Motorbike.”

These are the words of the chorus penned by a Kilkenny man, Willie Dunne, a member of a Limerick based group, written in the expectation that film star, George Clooney will visit Kilkenny during his motorbike road trip to Ireland next March and meet his direct descendants in the south of the county.

The Corrigan Brothers who charted in 20 countries and achieved over seven million hits on you tube with “There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama” are releasing a new single with a Kilkenny theme. “Welcome Home George Clooney” tells the story of Mr Clooney’s proud Irish links to Tullahought.

“We love a great ancestry story and this is a great one, we were delighted to hear that George’s Irish links had been established and are very thankful to Gabriel Murray and Dr Michael Conway for their discovery. We worked with Gabriel on his award winning film Obama’s Irish Roots,” lead singer Ger Corrigan said.

The band plan to make a video for the song in Kilkenny over the coming weeks, and will rely on their Kilkenny based banjo and mandolin player Willie Dunne to find the most appropriate filming locations.

“Kilkenny is a beautiful county and we are sure George will be thrilled to see the homestead of his ancestor Nicolas, he may never want to go home,” Ger Corrigan said.

The Corrigan Brothers are currently recording their second album and will tour the USA later this year. They will also be engaged in some events for the Obama Presidential campaign during the summer.

One of the verses goes like this:

He knows Angelina Jolie

but his hero is Brian Cody

he plans to meet him

for a few ould jars

he’ll go up to Nowlan Park

as the twilight turns to dark

to watch Henry crashin balls

over the bar

Welcome Home George Clooney (Corrigan Brothers and Willie Dunne 2012) lol! lol! lol!

If he is already getting this much attention I doubt he is going to be left alone by the paps it's one of the reasons I'm not so sure it's true. George usually keeps these trips with the boys very low key! And if he has surgery after the awards he won't be doing this trip it could be a cover.

What I'm saying it's me is that maybe he will be having his surgery and people will think he is riding around Ireland. George generally doesn't like people to know when he is in hospital we always find out afterwards. I just think there is too much attention on this trip for it to be real!

George would be in for some fun if he does go !

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers.

He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers.
I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back."

The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan's offer.
One man even leaves.

Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder.

"Is your bet still good?" asks the Irishman.
The Texan says "Yup" and asks the bartender to line up
10 pints of Guinness.

Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses, drinking them all back-to-back.
The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement.

The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says,
"If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that
30 minutes you were gone?"

The Irishman replies,
"Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see
if I could do it first."

George Clooney in Ireland? Empty Re: George Clooney in Ireland?

After a heavy night's drinking, two Irishmen stagger home from their country pub, intending to take a short cut through the graveyard.

Being much the worse for wear, they decide to take a rest against a stone, where Paddy reads the inscription.

"Do y'know, Michael, this fella here lived till he was 103!!"

"And did he come from hereabouts then?" asks Michael.

"No," says Paddy, reading the stone, "he was Miles, from Dublin"

Told you George would be in for some fun ! lol!

An English man, Irishman and a Scottishman are sitting
in a pub full of people.

The Englishman says, "The pubs in England are the best. You can buy one drink and get a second one free".
Everyone in the pub agreed and gave a big cheer.

The Scottishman says,"..yeah. That's quite good but in Scotland you can buy one drink and get another 2 for free."
Again, the crowd in the pub gave a big cheer.

The Irish man says "Your two pubs are good, but they
are not as good as the ones in Ireland.
In Ireland you can buy one pint, get another 3 for free
and then get taken into the backroom for a shag"

The English says "WOW! Did that happen to you?" and the Irishman replies "No, but it happened to my sister."

A LOCAL actor beat off stiff competition to be crowned ‘lookalike’ to Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney and will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Oscars in Los Angeles in March.

David Glendon will fly over to the prestigious event with Kilkenny-based filmmaker and historian Gabriel Murray, who organised the competition. “My company Olympia Films were allocated four tickets to the Oscars in March so we will be taking David with us. He will also be attending the Irish Film and TV Awards, which are held in Dublin next month. We took into consideration in deciding the winner that David is a local actor,” added Mr Murray, who is on the voting jury for the IFTAs.

The competition was held in Dylan’s Whiskey Bar on John Street last Friday night. In the run up to the event entrants were asked to submit a photograph where they posed and dressed as the legendary actor, whose Kilkenny roots were confirmed late last year. Some 783 entries were received from all over the country and the organisers shortlisted it down to five before announcing the overall winner last Friday night.

“I decided to do it for a bit of craic, for the fun of it,” said winner David Glendon. The 27-year-old, who is currently single, is no stranger to acting, having recently set up Firebird Theatre. “I have been involved in nearly amateur group in the city. Our next production is on in Cleere’s in March,” he said. “I am delighted to have won. To go to the Oscars, well that would be anyone’s dream come true,” he said.

Mr Murray discovered last year that George’s antecedent was a Nicholas Clooney from Windgap. There was some previous investigation in 2008. The baptismal certificate of Nicholas Clooney, George’s sixth-generation ancestor, had not been found. A Fás community employment scheme recently computerised all the birth records in Ireland. When Gabriel discovered the relevant certificate last November, it revealed that Nicholas Clooney was baptised in Windgap church on 23 July 1829 and was from Knockeen, Tullahought.

Ohhhhh, you want to see the picture of the winner? Yep, can do that.

(scroll down if you can't guess which one's the lookalike)

Seriously, I have no idea how they came up with this winner. I'm wondering what the others looked like.

I wonder how much Whiskey they drank before they chose him! Cause you would have to be pretty wasted to think any of them looked like George. Umm do they know what George looks like?
