Joanna, never saw Mission but remember the rave reviews.

And going from high brow to low brow films..

I happened to change the channel and hit that god-awful film with Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl: "The Ugly Truth."

Despite myself I did find myself laughing at this bit of dialogue exchange between Gerard and Katherine:

The Rules according to men...

G: Rule Number 1 - Never criticize.
K: Never?
G: Never - Men are incapable of growth, change or progress. For men, self-improvement ended at toilet training.

G: Rule Number 2 - Laugh at whatever he says.
K: What if what he says isn't funny?
G: That's irrelevant. A fake laugh is like a fake orgasm.
K: A fake orgasm is good?
G: No, but a fake orgasm is better than no orgasm at all.
K: A fake orgasm is no orgasm.
G: Only to you - see you're not the only person in the room you know, let's not be selfish!

G: Rule Number 3 - Men are visual. We have to change your look.
K: What's wrong with my look?
G: You are a very attractive woman, but you are completely inaccessible. You're all about comfort and efficiency.
K: What's wrong with comfort and efficiency?
G: Well, nothing, except no one wants it.

G: Rule Number 4 - Never talk about your problems cause men don't really listen or care.
K: Some men care.
G: No, some men pretend to care.

And that is The Ugly Truth! Brahahaha!

ANatascha, your bear is absolutely adorable. I have several email accounts, for different functions in my life, so I voted repeatedly using a different email account! Hoping no one thinks bad of me for doing this.

Natascha, do you ever sell your bears?

Tomorrow Sept. 11th is the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Center in New York City. The graphic event was re-created on MSNBC and National Geographic channel. It was on for hours and I probably shouldn't have watched the whole thing but it was like a train wreck, where you couldn't look away. It happened on a beautiful Tuesday morning which turned to complete horror for the whole world to think that such a thing could happen. We can all pray that nothing like that EVER happens again.

A lot of the survivors and rescue workers have come down with lung disease. There was a segment on the special about the widow of the hero who overtook the terrorist highjackers, causing the plane to crash in Pittsburg before they reached Washington, D.C. She still looks sad.

I live in NY. I don't think anyone who lives here will ever forget where they were that day. It did start out as a beautiful Sept. day. For a minute or more I didn't believe that what I was seeing was real. Afterward everything was eerily quiet. The smell was awful. The smoke was awful. The hole in the skyline was unthinkable. I think I spoke to almost everyone I knew that day. Some people didn't come home. Children were kept in school until an adult came to get them. The only time I felt safe was when they closed down the air space. The only planes that flew were air-force fighter jets. Everyone was crying. I still do. Tomorrow .......

Oh yes I can well imagine all that and more Bluebelle.
It must have been a terrible experience being there.
Some one who was there told a friend that there was so much toxins in the air like mercury.

I had it on tv here in UK from the time it was reported and the feeling just got worse and worse as the events went on.
I always try to watch the memorial from Ground Zero on the anniversary.
I remember the first one as if it was yesterday and cried
all through it...I remember the wind too....very symbolic.

I played hookie from work that day - was home with my radio on and instead of the usual songs, heard the news. Watched TV all day and saw the second tower come down LIVE. It was like a very bad movie or dream. I tried calling my family and friends but couldn't get through to anyone.

There was a moment of silence on the radio this morning at 8:46, the time the tragedy happened. I don't think anyone will ever forget that infamous day.

Post by silly girl on Tue Sep 11 2012, 14:50

I was working on 5th Ave. and this is what I remember: Talking to a co-worker who was still home on the phone as she described what she was seeing on TV. Hearing a co-worker say a "plane hit the WTC"--thinking it was a small plane. Going outside and across 5th Ave and looking at the damage---only to watch as the first tower goes down. Seeing the man with the baby in his arms shaking and crying. Reading my brother email telling me he loves me and to be safe...responding to him and hearing the collective gasp of the people on the street outside my window as the second tower falls. Looking out my window onto 5th Ave and "hearing" the eerie silence of the empty street. Walking up 5th wondering how we can get back to NJ. Waiting in line for hours for a ferry then sitting on the ferry and seeing the smoke and the man covered in ash. Being decontaminated as we got off the ferry. Listening to the man on the train say he was there for the first bombing and now he is never going back and the women next to me talking about antiquing. Surreal. Getting off the train to the silence of a park and seeing people laughing coming out of a restaurant and wanting to scream at them "don't you know what's happened!". Going to the parking lot and seeing the cars and wondering if the owners survived. Listening to my car radio and hearing congressional members sing God Bless America on the capital steps, then hearing that over 300 firefighters died---crying into my steering wheel. Finally at home ~getting a hug from my Mother. No I won't forget----I can never forget.

Thanks it was a sad day and scary....all I kept thinking was I wanted to be home. I knew one of the Port Authority police who died....he was the best friend of an old family friend. My friend took it hard....he even went to help dig at the site....It was weird because being in the city that day I didn't see the news until I got home. It was the people outside the city who knew more and saw it as it was happening. It truly was a universal event...I just wish sometimes that the closeness we all felt would have lasted longer.

Here's a video of the song Only Time by Enya. This video made the internet rounds in memory of the airplane passengers that crashed in Pennsylvania to avoid the second plane crashing in Washington, D.C. The video included all the pictures of the doomed passengers.

Thank you silly girl for sharing your dreadful experience with us.
The personal stories which gradually unfolded were heartbreaking.

It was a dreadful day and I can honestly say that many of us here in UK felt it all as we watched it all happening on our TV's.
For years I couldn't watch the reruns on TV as it just made me feel so full of pain inside.

For a long time it even caused me pain when I saw a film or the opening of Friends which showed the two towers standing with all the lights on.
I used to feel for the people inside at that moment of filming, thinking....."you don't know what's going to happen to you in the future"

I do hope that the survivors are managing somehow to achieve some peace inside their spirits as time goes on. Give Flowers

Silly girl so evoking what you wrote, thank you for sharing.
I heard it on the radio, small light plane they said. Turned on TV and watched horror unfold. My hubby was worried as his sister was on secondment to US and worked on Wall Street but he didn't know where. I didn't want to scare him but I knew she worked in Building No. 7. She could not get through to us for about 10 hrs, waiting to hear from her was intolerable, stayed up all night watching it, and I remember feeling so relieved when she rang but also incredibly sad knowing that so many people were also waiting for good news. True story, she was supposed to be in Tower 1 that day for training, floor 105 I think. She is the most annoyingly punctual person I know but for the first time in her life, she was late to the office that day, circumstances had her waiting for a co-worker to get ready, and waiting for a taxi. She was in the taxi getting closer to World Trade Center when the first plane hit, so she jumped out of the taxi, and when realising what had happened ran from the scene. It was so nice to hear her voice on the phone but what I remember is the constant noise of fire engines she said, alarms going off everywhere. During our conversation she kept saying Im never late over and over again in shock I guess - I told her a guardian angel had looked after her that day, I only wish that there were another 3000+ guardian angels on duty too. I have watched a few of the specials on TV in the years since and its not any less harrowing, which in a way is a good thing as it should impact us so that we do not ever forget all affected by that terrible day.

I can't imagine Charlie Sheen and Lohan together. I know Charlie has a problem but during his show 2 1/2 Men he played the perfect straight man and the show was so good. I miss him. The spin-off isn't even half as good. Ashton Kutcher can't fill his shoes. I love Charlie's new show "Anger Management" too.

TMZ seems to answer that this morning.

But here's my question, did those issues come before the drug use or after?

http://www.tmz.com/2012/09/15/amanda-bynes-mental-issues/

Amanda Bynes has much bigger problems than smoking pot and driving illegally ... there's evidence she has serious mental issues.

TMZ has spoken with a number of people who have had repeated contact with Bynes over the last few months, and the stories are consistent and disturbing.

Several people from her gym -- Equinox in West Hollywood - tell us, she has been showing increasingly alarming signs of delusional behavior. One person says Amanda came to the gym Thursday looking dazed and began speaking with herself -- making comments and then answering back.

Another person says when Amanda was on the elliptical, she would stop suddenly and start "laughing hysterically for no reason." She did this periodically throughout her workout. This person says he's seen her dozens of times in the last few months, and says it's apparent her condition is "deteriorating."

Several of Amanda's neighbors echo the concern over Amanda's condition. One tells us he observed her on several occasions having long conversations with inanimate objects. Another person says people in her condo complex are aware of her condition and her conduct but haven't called her friends or relatives or authorities because they just don't want to get involved, given her profile.

Some of the people in the building have been upset over the last few weeks, because they believe the media is painting Amanda as a garden variety pothead and they say her problems are much deeper.

Then I made one post and swore I wouldn't over do it. Now look at me. I just wanted to say Thank You to Katiedot for starting this forum. I also want to Thank everyone here who have welcomed me and have been kind to me. Even though we don't agree all the time I truly believe no one is malicious or unkind....just have different opinions. When I first signed up for this forum it was only to look at the photos...then I wanted to make comments but was too shy to write so I sent messages to Katie instead. Then I made one post and swore I wouldn't over do it. Now look at me. I just wanted to say Thank You to Katiedot for starting this forum. I also want to Thank everyone here who have welcomed me and have been kind to me. I know we all come from different backgrounds and different worlds....some even different continents but that doesn't matter here. Even though we don't agree all the time I truly believe no one is malicious or unkind....just have different opinions. Anyway I am big into milestones and celebrations....and I didn't want to waste a landmark post on something trite. Believe me when I say I appreciate everyone here....Thanks too for letting me rant when I need to...sometimes it is hard to vent in real life. Give Flowers

Let's hope GC comes out of hiding so we have more photos to look at and comment on soon.

Sorry this is belated, but somehow this post got past me. Probably had my head too far up my ass that day.....

CONGRATS Silly Girl! What a thoughtful and heartwarming post! People like you make this place feel like family and are a major reason I keep coming back. Hope you're around for Post 2000 and beyond!
Luv ya!
