OMG, it's August already? What the hell happened to June??
Sounds like you're going to have a real George Clooney fest, Lakin. Enjoy!
Now, how's this for passive-aggressive: our boss has really pissed all of us in the office off this morning, so when he was gone for lunch four of us started to train his parrot to swear.
I can tell you from personal experience that it's incredibly therapeutic to scream 'bugger!' at a parrot. It takes a couple of days to get the parrot to learn a new word but we're all fixed on getting him to learn it.

It's amazing how parrots pick up words. My friend inherited a parrot from a household of men (kind of a frat house) and the bird had a very salty vocabulary. It was embarrasing when friends came over.

Tell me about it! Our parrot makes female moaning noises. We can only assume it's the boss's girlfriend. My mind absolutely refuses to go any further down that speculation route but it's a tad too porno for anyone's comfort.

Just remembered one endearing phrase spoken by that naughty parrot.
"Tie me britches to the witches, I'm comin' in."

Oh cindi! GREAT vids! I loved the parrot - what a smarty pants he is (assuming it's a male parrot) and the second video made me think of George (in more ways than one!) mainly because he's a talented caricature artist. Thanks! Made me smile.

Well I guess you have a point. Okay I'll have to agree with you. Your etch a sketch would suck.
See that? Consensus! What a concept! Brahahaha!
Seriously though, his work is awesome. I had an etch a sketch as a kid and was barely able to draw a straight line so my etch a sketch talent sucks too!

Ok can I say something about the ads on this site.
I'm not complaining about katie's right to have banner ads, what I'd like is for companies to stop that creepy following-me-from-site-to-site crap!
That's what pisses me off.
I take ONE look at something on their website and that damn ad follows me wherever I go.
It's like some creepy stalker! It's fucking eerie I tell ya!

Ah, you need to adjust your settings with google. When you google something, Google remembers it and then presents you with every ad it can think of relating to your searches.
I think that if you click on the 'ad choices' link near the ads you can tell it to stop doing that.
It may also help to delete your cookies so you more or less wipe the memory of your searches.
I wish I could stop the ads but I have to pay money to do that and I'm not willing to go that route.

What I find funny and amazing, is sometimes the ads are about what we're talking about on a certain thread. Like the Como thread, and ads for Italy or Lake Como show up on top! Freaky!!!

Yes, google ads are 'context specific' so it kind of reads what's on a website page and then tries to match ads to the words it finds.
I still can't figure out why I keep being presented with one huge facebook advert that says "Looking for Stan Rosenfield?". I'm beginning to take it personally!

Getting rid of Ads on the computer is easy with AdBlock.
I've got it on my Mac.
Just search for the one suitable for your system...ie firefox, mozilla, safari

Parrot Joke
A woman gets up, puts up the shades, takes the cover off her parrot's cage, makes coffee, and has a cigarette.
Suddenly the phone rings. Her boyfriend is coming over.
She puts out the cigarette, pulls down the shades, puts the cover back on the parrot's cage, and gets back into bed.
The parrot, from under the cloth says:
"Well that was a short fuckin' day!"

We're still talking about parrots - here's an interesting fact (I think)
WHITE-FRONTED PARROT
After two white-fronted parrots get to know each other, they will start to kiss. Cute enough, but what happens next is not. If things are going well and the pair decides to mate, the male will start vomiting into the female's mouth before sealing the deal. (ScienceRay)
UCK!!! Ladies, be happy our male mates don't practice this. LOL

Re: August chit chat
They open their beaks, one turns its head sideways and they kind of lock beaks. No idea if there's tongues involved.
The vomiting thing is what birds do when they really, really love you. It's how they feed their babies (regurgitate) in the nest and it's a sign of great affection if they do it for you.
Oh look at me, the parrot-fact-knowing loser. I'm going out to celebrate Saturday with some good rum.

Re: August chit chat
Thanks Katie - parrots are beautiful creatures. I would love to have one for a pet, except I wouldn't want a pet outliving me. I once had 2 lovebirds (who look like miniature parrots). When one died the other screeched so loud I gave it away to a nursing home, where the ladies were hard of hearing. THEY complained about the noise!
True story.

Re: August chit chat
Cindi you can always make arrangements for the care of your parrot in your will and make sure family members know about it....then you can have one....oh do get one ??
Just think of the fun you could share with us all
We have a signed agreement with Millie's breeder that he'll have her back to live with him if we can't keep her for whatever reason...illness, divorce and death etc etc
He still sees her and loves her and it's peace of mind for us too.

Just wanted to share something. I'm all over the internet today and I came across an article about buying homes that have stygmas attached (murders, etc.). I read that the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Mass. (where Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother in the house) is now a bed and breakfast.
The proprietors of the bed and breakfast have a motto "Where everyone is treated like family." You have to admit they have a sense of humor.

Wow, that's funny. I posted a response to you, Jo, but when I came back here, it's gone. Hmmmm.....
Okey dokey then. Yes, I checked 3 local libraries and located Syriana at one and The American at another, so that's on the To Do List, unless after looking into Amazon, I decide just to go with them.
Thanks, Jo, for the help!

Re: August chit chat
Recently, I haven't posted a lot.
That was because I've been very busy because, the teddy bears have their own Olympics and I was invited to participate and represent Germany. Can you imagine how proud I was?
But the hard work has been worth it: My little bear was chosen among the Top 10.
If you would like to have a peek on the Teddy Bear Olympics:
http://www.twtba.org.tw/2012_TBOC/contest/contest.asp
My bear is no.6, the little bear with leatherpants, dog and football.
He was inspired by my favourite soccer-player Thomas Müller, top scorer of the World Cup 2010.
The German soccer team didn't qualify for the Olympics, so I decided to send him as a fan, to support and entertain his fellow athlets and provide traditional Bavarian beer showers for the (un)lucky winners:
I can't tell you how exited I am at the moment.....

Thanks Lakin for the Info about the Meteor Shower.
Is it viewable all over or just in USA do you know ?
I remember we had one here and enjoyed being out on the
back patio spotting loads of them in the Eastern & Western sky
from midnight.
I want to send the info on to my mates but before I do I'd better get my facts accurate....LOL
