This week Kate Beckinsale admitted that she didn’t appreciate her fabulous looks until she was 29, and she’s not the only poor celebrity to suffer from ugly duckling syndrome (UDS).

George was a late starter in Hollywood and as a result didn’t enjoy his sex symbol status until his late 30s. Before that he thought he was definitely an ugly duckling.

On joining ER, the show that was to give him his big break he joked: ‘Me, a sex symbol? Have you seen my chin? You could easily park a limousine on it.’
