Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged to marry, a spokeswoman for Pitt said on Friday.

"Yes, it's confirmed. It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time," Pitt's spokeswoman Cynthia Pett-Dante told Reuters.

Pitt, 48, and Jolie, 36, have been a couple since 2005, and are raising six children together, but until now have said they had no plans to marry.

But Jolie was photographed at a Los Angeles museum this week wearing a large diamond ring on her engagement finger that Pitt had helped to design.

Jewelry maker Robert Procop said he had fashioned the ring in collaboration with Pitt, specifically for the actress.

"The full creative journey - from conception to completion - took a year, with Brad Pitt waiting until the perfect moment to unveil this special jewel to Angelina Jolie," Procop's spokeswoman said in a statement on Friday.

The couple, dubbed Brangelina by celebrity media, have previously resisted pressure to marry, despite numerous reports over the years that a wedding was in the offing.

Pitt, the star of "Moneyball", said some years ago they would not wed until gay marriage was legalized in the United States.

But in January he was quoted as saying that the pair were coming under pressure from their three adopted and three biological children.

"It (marriage) seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to do it 'til everyone can. But I don't think we'll be able to hold out," Pitt told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview.

"It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment ... But to be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to it is ludicrous, just ludicrous," he added.

Pitt and Jolie became close on the set of the movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Pitt later divorced "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston.

Jolie, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her work on "Girl, Interrupted" in 1999, had two previous short-lived marriages to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

I'm very happy about this. I didn't like Angelina after she came between Jennifer and Brad, but it appears everything worked out for best. I've also come to respect her for her altruism. I think Angelina and Brad belong together and Jennifer seems happy with Justin Theroux. I'm sure the Branjelina brood is happy.

Good for them, haven't they been together as a couple longer than he was married to Jen? Didn't like the way they got together, but Brad had to of been unhappy in his marriage to have fallen so hard so fast. Seems like their relationship/parenting is working out great, and a wedding may help the kids feel like everyone else, kids do like it when their parents fit the mold.

I knew a guy who had a bachelor party two nights before the wedding. He got drunk and passed out and woke up naked in a phone booth. Apparently his buddies loaded him into a car after he passed out, drove to a rural town where they stripped him, taped a quarter to the back of his hand, and sat him passed out in a phone booth. Then they drove a bit away where they could keep an eye on this guy and parked and sat there and waited until the guy woke up, about 6am. When he started to run away from the phone booth, his buddies rescued him. Good thing about rural towns, not a lot of pedestrians.

Hmmm, if I recall correctly he paid around $500K for Jennifer's ring. He had it custom made also in the shape of a heart. I like the one he had made for Angie better. It's simple (albeit it HUGE) and fits her style.

But the Friends star is said to be delighted for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie after hearing the couple are set to wed.

I have always loved Jennifer Anniston!

I like Jen, too. I do not appreciate the way that Brad cheated on her, and left her for Angie. That was not right, period.

The only ones making a big deal out of the "love triangle" anymore are the talentless media hacks, who either don't have the talent or the desire to write about something useful.

I sincerely wish Angelina and Brad the very best future and I'm sure this is making the children happier than any outing/vacation/toy imaginable. I thought it was so precious that it was their children who kept after them to get married.

I think they bring out the best in each other and both of them have changed in a good way since they got together and created their beautiful family and I hope they all have many long, happy years together.

I agree it was terrible for Jen to have her husband fall out of love with her and in love with another woman. But it has been years and I bet she wishes people would just get over it. She has dated her share of men and looks to be happy, she deserves to have someone in her life that loves her, not to be with someone who is looking for something else. B&A should get on with their lives they have 6 kids.

We’re sure the details of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s wedding day are being sorted out as we speak, but one aspect we’re dying to know (besides the dress)? Who will be Brad’s best man!

The 48-year-old Moneyball actor has lots of famous friends, including George Clooney and Matt Damon, so many are betting (literally) that it will come down to one of them. However, there are some others in the mix who would be a great fit to help throw a wild bachelor party (and all those other best man duties) for the father of six.

For instance, it’s usually tradition that when a man gets married, his brother (or dad) is the one to be bestowed with the honor.

I seriously doubt Angie and Brad are doing this for publicity purposes. They get plenty of media attention whether they want it or not. They're not a couple of reality show hacks sucking the life out of all us with their constant need for manufactured photo ops (Can we say Spencer & Heidi?)

Brad has mentioned in quite a few interviews lately that the kids have been asking them to get married. Interesting that the little ones are much more conventional than their parents! Or perhaps they don't understand why their friends have parents who are married and they don't.

Whatever the reason for the change of heart i.e. Brad stating he would not marry till everyone if able to marry including same sex couples, I hope they will be happy. Angie comes across as intense at times so Brad will always have his hands full, but I'll bet she's never boring!

After confirming their engagement Friday, it seems like EVERYONE wants to know just how Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will be celebrating their nuptials!
Well, if you thought you might be able to catch a glimpse of Angie in her white dress here in the States, think again!
The couple will be tying the knot in the south of France this summer, at a chapel in the village of Correns! The chapel is located on their estate, Miraval, which has been a retreat for the two since they began leasing it in 2008.

After a decade of promoting refugee causes around the world, Angelina Jolie herself has been promoted.

The United Nations refugee agency has elevated the star from being a goodwill ambassador to a special envoy, a role that will see her represent the organisation at the diplomatic level to governments and diplomats.

It is the first time the UN refugee agency has named a special envoy, said a spokesman. Elsewhere in the global body such posts are usually reserved for career diplomats or retired politicians.

"Her work does go substantially beyond what we would typically see as being the normal role of a goodwill ambassador," the spokesman said.

"I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world's displaced."

Jolie has jetted the world on behalf of the organisation over the past ten years, making high-profile visits to refugee camps in Iraq, Haiti and Pakistan, among other places.

Apart from her time, Jolie has also given large personal donations to the organisation, which relies entirely on voluntary contributions from governments, companies and individuals.

"She has donated substantially to refugees," said the spokesman, noting that the actress/director will not receive any money for her role.

Jolie's new position will focus on the complex crises that result in the mass displacement of people, such as in Afghanistan and Somalia. In addition, on special occasions she will represent the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres.

UNHCR works to help almost 35 million refugees and internally displaced people around the world. It was established to aid millions of Europeans displaced during the Second World War and has since become one of the world's most prominent humanitarian organizations.

Kudos to Angie, who like Brad (New Orleans) and G, use their celeb status to really help others.
