Win a date with Clooney?
Obama's re-election team offers chance for supporters to attend fundraiser

In addition to his activism to bring peace and stability to Darfur, the electric-car driving Clooney has adopted several environmental causes and helped organize fundraisers for the 2010 Haiti earthquake and 2004 Asia tsunami.
For those who have always dreamed of an evening with George Clooney, the president may have the hook up - that is, if you donate to his campaign.
President Barack Obama's re-election team is offering a chance for two supporters to attend a fundraiser with the president and Clooney at the actor's pad in Los Angeles.
"You, you heard it right, dinner with President Obama...at George Clooney's house. Pretty incredible, right?" Julianna Smoot, deputy campaign manager, said in an email to supporters on Thursday.
A longtime Obama supporter, Clooney recently made headlines in the political world after testifying before Congress on the situation in South Sudan. He also made a stop by the White House while in Washington to discuss the ongoing crisis with the president.
The following day, the celebrity was arrested along with his father and others while protesting outside the Sudanese embassy. He was released with a $100 fine a few hours later.
Clooney began offering his star power in 2007 during Obama's first presidential bid, calling the then-Illinois senator a "rock star."

This is like a "rent a date" at a charity function.

George auctioned off a kiss one time, didn't he? Seems I've seen a picture of him kissing the winner. Sigh.....

Right, that was a while ago. This woman's boyfriend (for some strange reason) paid I think $25,000 for his girlfriend to have a kiss with George.
Now if he really wants to raise money for his Sudan cause he could do that again. As long as he keeps antiseptic mouthwash handy. LOL

Yea, I know, cindigirl. I thought it was a risky venture to auction off a kiss. Who knows who would win and how awkward if the person had warts or a cold sore or something. Ewwwwwww....
Didn't deter our brave George, did it?

Thanks Lakin - I wondered if I was the only one who thought about that. I'm an admitted germaphobe and the thought of kissing a stranger on the mouth makes we want to wash my mouth out in soap. LOL

Sorry to say this, but as much I'd I love to spend a evening in George's company, I'm afraid I'll have to pass. Can't be a hypocrite and donate a dime toward the campaign of someone I would never vote for.

I agree with you, Cindigirl. Maybe George needs to consider the "Tequila Body Shot" manuver for this event. Do a Tequila Body Shot with George! Sounds a little more exciting than a peck on the cheek or lips. Am I right? Plus with a little shot of alcohol, that is bound to kill some of those cooties that George might get from the whole experience.
But perhaps skip the last part where the one partner retrieves the lemon from the other partner's teeth/mouth/lips area. Need to re-invent the final phase of that drinking technique?

Can't quite see Julianna Smoot going for that one somehow..
Smart idea to raise funds. Think how many people will do this, because presumably it doesn't matter how little you donate. Two pairs of tickets out of 150 on offer is pretty good too

Just think of the security that's going to round where Gee lives! It was bad enough when Obama came to LA last year for fund raisers, but round Studio City, nightmare!!! Bet the neighbors won't be pleased!!!

Isn't the secret to keeping the neighbour's happy when throwing
a big party is just to invite them all along ?
I've done that in the past, and after all the "travelling" guests had gone home the party carried on till 7am.
Sunday in the cul de sac was very, very quiet
that weekend !

Re: Win a date with Clooney?
A date that consists of a few minutes of publicity meeting and probably never speaking to him again the rest of the evening? no, thanks, I'll pass.
If I had the chance to have a 'date' with him, I'd want it to be just George. I'd want him to be himself and not feel like he had to be 'on', aka Mr. Hollywood.
Cindigirl, I'm with you on the kissing strangers thing. I don't want people to be in my personal space, period, unless I really know them. As Karen Walker from Will & Grace said "Never come within 4ft of my lips unless you're served in a frosted glass!"

I did enter the contest, i would like to meet Barack and Michelle Obama as well as seeing George but reading your replies have very good points. i would rather have one on one time with him, say, on a harley ride
At the same time winning the contest would suffice.
( i was curious about the accommodations: hotel or ??? )

I spent several months in Ecuador and it was quite horrifying for me as it's custom to hug and kiss (on the cheek) every person one meets. Being one of the few blonde people in the country, I met a lot of people. I can barely hug friends and family members let alone kiss strangers so it took a lot of mental preparation. But it was well worth it because Ecuador is awesome!

Re: Win a date with Clooney?
Maybe, just maybe, George would tell the winner that the security was too high, so he'll take the winner out privately at another time?
I love hugging people. Im a touchy kinda person. It does my endomorphins good! But really, they say that babies that are touched more when first born have a higher success rate for living. Must be something good about "touch".
As for that kiss, I believe her BF paid $350,000 for that kiss between her and George. Im talking about the auction where Sharon Stone m'ceed it. If there was another, I missed it.

Re: Win a date with Clooney?
Well I am entered. So if I win, I'd need help seriously, in getting at least one outfit that would be proper for this event. I am poor and would have to try to make myself a dress for it. I can sew. Made my sister's wedding dress and it was lovely with a full skirt at the bottom. Imagine how long it took me to do that hem. Made her a veil also. She still has it. I am a short woman, 5.2. So its very hard to get dresses that actually fit in length and bust. They make them all very busty for shorter women and striking at the lower mid leg.
I would just have a prob getting some decent material and a good pattern. Only real problem with that is the time factor. Hehehehe. Well seriously, don't think I will have to worry about that one tho. Chances of winning are like a million to one. But everyone will know by May 2nd, I believe it is.
If I were by some freaking miracle to win a shot, I'll let you guys know right away. I'd be so excited. Wouldn't you, if you won a shot?

Why celeb endorsements matter (Or, is George Clooney more like Jennifer Aniston or Peyton Manning?)
Posted by Suzy Khimm at 03:03 PM ET, 04/23/2012
It might be tempting to write off the Obama campaign’s decision to raffle off a dinner with George Clooney for donors as an attention-grabbing ploy. But perhaps it’s more than that, Perhaps it’s science.

Anthony Nownes, a political scientist at the University of Tennessee, has found that celebrities who contribute to political campaigns can make a party more or less likable — depending on what voters think of the celebrities in the first place.
In a journal article for American Politics Research, Nownes ran an experiment looking at how voters responded after being informed that Jennifer Aniston has donated heavily to Democrats and quarterback Peyton Manning had donated to Republicans.
“First, when people who dislike Jennifer Aniston are exposed to information about her support for Democrats, they report liking the Democratic Party less.
Second, when some people who like Peyton Manning are exposed to information about Manning’s support for Republicans, they report liking the Republican Party more,” he writes.
But this doesn’t mean that political parties should necessarily rush out to scoop up celebrity endorsements and celebrate their donations. Unlike Manning, Aniston failed to have a positive effect on perceptions of the Democratic Party, even among voters who liked her.
So the question then is what sort of political celebrity is Clooney?
An Aniston or a Manning?
