Re: How much did George earn for his films?
and how much has he pissed away on stupid stuff? I do think that he's probably a wise investor and we do know that he makes some serious green from his endorsement deals. I don't think he's hurting in the wallet.

According to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] he's worth $160 million. I can't imagine having this amount of money either playfuldeb.
I got the following info from: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] George Clooney
Estimated 2009 earnings: $22 million
$10 million: Up in the Air (fee for starring)
$5 million: Fees for appearing in foreign commercials, royalties from older films, other revenue
$4.5 million: The Men Who Stare at Goats (back end, based on worldwide gross of $44 million; Clooney took no up-front fee, but got a now-rare first-dollar gross deal)
$2.5 million: The American (fee for starring in and producing upcoming spy thriller)

Katie those figures above are without the "back end" added into them correct? On some of these films, I think he didn't take a real "salary upfront" but got a large percentage of the "back end".

Re: How much did George earn for his films?
As far as I know, that's right, Lighter. In theory he earned more for most of the films he made than his actual salary because of the back end.
Of course he also has to pay most of it to the taxman, not to mention staff salaries plus the % commissions to various people so he doesn't get to see a lot of it, but it's still plenty.

Re: How much did George earn for his films?
I'm not sure I'm clear on the difference between the "back end" and royalties. Does the back end refer to theater-based profits while royalties are based on DVD sales and tv airings?

Re: How much did George earn for his films?
Royalties aren't paid in film. That is compensation associated with television, commercials and cable productions as well as the music and print/publishing industries.
The "back end" would be all related earnings to the release of the film, such as DVD sales and any merchandising associated with the film.
