Rande And Cindy Empty Rande And Cindy

Post by PigLove Tue 28 Dec 2010, 22:44

Since they're all together in Cabo, I thought it was a good time to discuss GTC's most public friendship (if you don't count Brad Pitt).

Here are some articles about the guy. He is famously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, rumored to be a womanizer (remember GTC offering to take a lie detector test for him?), and the owner of many of the bars, restaurants, and resorts that GTC frequents. Are they friends or biz partners? How long have they been "together"? Does anyone else get skeeved by the guy?

And what about Cindy?

Rande And Cindy Empty Re: Rande And Cindy

Post by PigLove Tue 28 Dec 2010, 22:46

Here's an older article from Clooney Network. I'm on my iPod, so typing/pasting is a pain. Sorry!

The ace of clubs - Interview with Rande Gerber - June 24, 2006

The ace of clubs - Interview
Times, The (London, England)
June 24, 2006
Author: Lucy Broadbent

Once Rande Gerber was famous for being Cindy Crawford's husband, but these days he's
renowned in his own right, as the creator of some of the world's most ueber-chic
nightclubs. Now he's even making Vegas sophisticated again -with help from his friend
George Clooney

For an impresario who's credited with changing the face of American nightlife -known in
investment circles as the Donald Trump of nightclubs - Rande Gerber doesn't seem like much
of a party animal. He's endearingly awkward, polite and reserved in a way that you wouldn't
expect of any New Yorker, let alone one who has built an empire around partying. His wife,
Cindy Crawford, says he's shy.

"I've never been a party person," he says with an uneasy laugh, looking like he'd be better
suited on a horse, rounding up cattle on a Western plain than socialising in a nightclub.
"I guess that's odd, given what I do. The truth is I got into this out of necessity. I used
to go out with a few friends once or twice a week, and there wasn't anywhere I loved going
to, so I decided to develop this lounge concept for a nightclub that didn't exist at the
time. I had no idea it would turn into this."

Fifteen years on, he owns so many clubs he's lost count. And no longer is he known as the
inconsequential adjunct to his high-profile supermodel wife, referred to in gossip columns
as simply a nightclub owner. Today, Gerber is a celebrity in his own right. He's revered in
America as an arbiter of style, a tastemaker whose knowledge of what's cool has ensured
that in 15 years, he has never shut down a club -a record in the fickle nightclub industry.
He owns 22 clubs, every one of which is a magnet to A-listers, all of whom, from Brad Pitt
to Lenny Kravitz, he seems to be on drinking-buddy terms with.

This April, he began his European invasion, with his first venue opening in Madrid. His
second club in Las Vegas also openedJlast month, described as an "Ultra Club" for which the
brief was: "No matter what it costs, I want it to be something people have never seen
before." And just in case anyone should doubt his power-playing credentials, he is about to
open a $3-billion dollar casino complex in Vegas, with his new business partner and old
friend George Clooney.

Not bad for a retiring wall-flower. But then, appearances can be deceptive.

When Gerber starts talking about his new projects, he becomes easier to see propping up a
bar with a Grey Goose vodka in hand. "My direction for Vegas was, 'I want the biggest,
baddest sound and lighting system you've done in any of the clubs anywhere in the world'. I
want people to walk in and be blown away," he says.

"Everything is so over the top in Vegas, and this is my second club there.

Everyone is looking to see what my next move is going to be, how can I outdo what I just
did. This had to be sophisticated and elegant like all my clubs, but still be
over-the-top."

Gerber, 43, is sitting behind his desk in his all-white office, which overlooks the beach
at Malibu, California. It's a design maven's paradise - steel-framed furniture, fashionable
staff, its own bar. Like his clubs, it's super-modern, ueber-chic, yet still comfortable.

"I do what I like; I'm lucky that people appreciate it," he says. "When I opened my first
club I wanted couches, music that was mellow. I got friends together to put up the money,
and we said, at least we'll have a place to hang out. The first night there were lines
round the block."

That was the first whisky bar in New York, in Ian Schrager's Paramount Hotel, designed with
Philippe Starck. Since then, Gerber's Midnight Oil company has become an empire of swanky
watering-holes. In his clubs he oversees the choice of every napkin, and makes up the
monthly music lists.

His Las Ramblas casino-hotel project with George Clooney -his most ambitious yet -will
equally be his own vision. Clooney and Gerber, who met years ago at one of Gerber's bars,
decided to open a casino when travelling to Vegas. They both yearn for the Vegas of the
past, when the city was about dinner jackets and martinis.

"What George and I want to do is bring back our perception of the old glamour of Vegas," he
says. "But a contemporary version of that, where people get dressed up to go. It'll be like
the Vegas of Sinatra and Dean Martin. Very elegant; maybe you'll dance, maybe you'll
gamble. What it won't be is another casino where people are wearing shorts, throwing down
five dollars at a time and getting wasted on cheap beer. It'll be the kind of place where
we'd hang out."

But will it be the kind of place his wife will want to go? The irony is that Crawford is
not a night owl. Furthermore, she is not fond of Las Vegas. "Cindy's not a nightlife
person," Gerber says. "She loves my places, but it's not her thing. She's usually in bed by
11."

Gerber met his wife in the early Nineties. "I guess you could say it was a blind date," he
says with a chuckle. "Except I knew what she looked like. I had an old friend who was her
agent, and he was getting married, and I didn't have a date. She was invited to the
wedding, but her boyfriend at the time (Richard Gere) didn't want to go. So we went to the
wedding together and we talked and we drank and of course, it was love at first sight. Only
problem was she got married soon after that to her boyfriendI..."

Gerber is now laughing raucously.

"But we kept in touch a little and a few years later, she ended up getting divorced and we
met up and it happened from there. The great thing was we were friends firstI..." His voice
trails off and eyes light up as a six-year-old boy runs across his office and throws
himself into his father's arms. Cindy Crawford follows, clutching a McDonald's bag. "We've
brought you lunch," she says, offering him aJkiss. "Ooh, goody," says Gerber. "And a shake
too!"

The couple live a few miles along the beach with their sons Presley, 6, and Kaia, 4. Gerber
drives his motorcycle to work and frequently his family pop in. It's an idyllic picture of
family life -only marred perhaps by never seeing each other? "The truth is whether I'm at
one of my clubs or not, the party goes on. I only travel maybe five days in a month. I get
busy when I'm opening a new club, but I like to be at home with my family."

And does he ever persuade his wife to party? "Oh, sure. We had a vacation in the South of
France recently and we were dancing on the tables. It was the middle of the day, so you
know we had a good time. We weren't with our kids, and we were staying on someone else's
boat, so we just let loose."

Cindy is getting ready to leave. To what does she attribute her husband's trail of
successes? "Everyone thinks he's so laid-back, but no one's more picky than Rande," she
says, emphatically. "He notices if a sconce is off.

He wants to know if the hitch of the banquette is comfortable. He's the princess and the
pea."

Born in a middle-class suburb of New York, the son of a jeans manufacturer, Gerber insists
he has never been ambitious. After attending the University of Arizona, he took off to
Europe where he did occasional modelling jobs in order to fund his travelling. Then he
became a commercial real estate agent, and it was while he was trying to lease the space at
the Paramount hotel, that the idea came up to open his first club there. "My dad's spirit
was, 'Do what you want to do, and the worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work out.
Then you do something else'. I'm lucky because I love what I do."

Fortunately for Gerber, there is a whole roster of celebrities who also love what he does.
The in-crowd -including everyone from Paris Hilton to Bill Clinton -is what keeps him in
business. "The reason they come is because we don't talk about them," he says.

"It's a funny business, nightclubs," he relents. "People let their guard down. One time
there was a very, very high-profile married couple in the bar who propositioned two of the
waitresses to come back with them to their house and, you know, join in the festivities.
They weren't discreet about it at all. I can control my employees, but I can't control what
other people see." Gerber raises his hands in mock exasperation, but he's laughing.
"Sometimes crazy things do happen. But clubs should be places to let loose."

If he's not a party animal himself, he knows the species very well.

Rande Gerber's Top 5 Tips For a cool nightclub

1 Comfort. It's got to be the kind of place where you feel really at home.

2 Discretion. Celebrities like coming to us because we don't ever talk about them. We know
where they like to sit, what they like to drink, and we don't allow cameras in.

3 Good mix. We try to keep an eclectic mix of people -gay, straight, white, black, women
and men. If you turn up with a bunch of five guys, we won't typically let you in because
then women won't feel comfortable.

4 Decadence. I want people to feel that they can do whatever they want when they come in.

5 Innovation. It's got to have good music, good design, good lighting and a good vibe.

Something about Rande bothers me, skeevy, yes. When I found out George and him were buddies, well George lost a little respect. I think he is a womanizing pig and often wonder what happened with the lawsuit.

Cindy looks great in these photos, sexy but without showing off everything you've got. EC should take some lessons. Randi seems to be making an attempt to save his marriage and family, I hope his learned whats important in his life. Of course now we hardly ever see him with good buddy GC. There for awhile I got the impression he wanted GC's life over his own.

Or maybe vice versa once. I remember an ibterview where G said he and his buds used to dream about dating Cindy Crawford.

They show up together a lot. Do you think G is deeply invested in Gerber Group?

I think I remember that George and Randi had invested in property in Vegas and wanted to build a hotel. It never happened but they made a pile when they sold the property. I also remember reading a while ago that Randi and Cindy had a don't ask don't tell type of marriage. Don't know how true any of this is.

I think they have an open marriage too Blubelle. I don't know for a fact, just in my reading. Of course, we can believe EVERYTHING we read, can't we? I think it's been brought up elsewhere about George's "crush" on Cindy and it's been speculated that's why so many of his girlfriends have similar characteristics of Cindy. I call that more an obsession. scratch

I think Cindy is softer and of course is actually a model and is successful neither of which Elisabetta is. We don't see pictures of the two and I really think Cindy doesn't like her and I can only guess that Eli would be jealous afterall Cindy has the lifestyle she wants. I have always thought that Cindy and rande have an agreement of some sort, she seemed to have one with Richard Gere as well.

If that is Grant and his wife, she doesn't look thrilled to be there. As far as comparing CC and EC, Cindy (IMHO) has a real career, that is successful and took alot of effort and hard work. Something to be proud of, that wasn't handed to her.Maybe that isn't a fair opinion, but what has EC done successfully other than taking her clothes off?

Kid Rock has been around before in recent years past and I find it interesting that all these friends of George's are there but George and Betty are no where around them. Maybe they can't really stand her either? That's gotta bite for Georgie, since they're his friends and he's generally used to being the center of that universe and he's stuck hanging out with her friends instead. Wonder why they couldn't mingle the two groups?

That's a big group there in Cabo, isn't it? George, EC, her friends and family, Grant and Lysa, the Gerbers and their kids and nannies (I assume), Kid Rock and his 'buxom blonde,' Ben and the rest of the boys and their companions, plus whatever friends all of their friends bought with them....geez, it's like a gang. How romantic. Plus, none of them look like they're enjoying themselves. It's like they go to Cabo at this time of year because that's what the rich and famous do, go to Cabo. It's where the 'fabulous people' hang out so off they go. Eh, I'm sure it's beautiful there, and I won't say no to going once just to see it, but all those people around, all of them posing and preening for the cameras....doesn't look like fun to me.

Maybe they can't really stand her either? That's gotta bite for Georgie, since they're his friends and he's generally used to being the center of that universe and he's stuck hanging out with her friends instead. Wonder why they couldn't mingle the two groups?

Too combustable perhaps? confused LMAO! I would love to see a group photie of the WHOLE gang wouldn't you? Hahaha

And, don't forget its been rumored/reported/gossiped that he didn't take her to any after parties for the awards' dinners.

Yeah, I forgot about that Sisieq...good point!

I'm willing to bet that she was in the house. It will look weird if he was with her for Christmas and not New Year's. IMHO. Unless she has a good reason to be back in Italy,

Probably depends on what George's plans were. Maybe he wanted a quiet New Year's with Eli?

I was at Jay Leno's Comedy Store and then onto Jack Black's NYE party and he wasnt there. Didnt see him around Hollywood. But we know that he knows how to lay low!

Deb, I think Angelina has Brad on a short leash, and with his 6 kids around, I'll bet George doesn't want to catch that bug! You know, he's allergic to kids!!! lol

I really think that Brad loves those kids, but I'm betting there are moments when he wishes he was free like the wind with George. But, that whole group, minus George, all have kids and wives/SOs. Some of my married friends have husbands who don't want them "going out" with me since I'm single and a bad influence. Jokes on them - I'm a good girl!!!!
