Does he really believe in all of the 'causes' he's involved with, or is he just a bandwagon jumper? Hope not. flower

I think a lot of celebrities do jump on causes because they will help their image. I think in GC's case he does truly believe in what he fights for....I believe him that he wants to leave a legacy, at least I want to believe him.

If he were just a "bandwagoner", I don't believe he would have gone to Dafur or Sudan and risked his life (and his father's). He would have just "spouted platitudes and handed over some money like so many of the celebrities do. I too believe in his wanting to leave a legacy, I really do.

I agree I think this is the way George has decided to leave his legacy and his films of course. I think it's great he does things for others and while some think him not having children is selfish I think the opposite. He wants to help others and is smart enough to know his own limitations. Makes him a happier person!

You go girlfriends! I absolutely believe that he stands by what he says and does. It's not for the "glory". He does it from the goodness and compassion in his heart.

I think George is sincerely passionate about and committed to his humanitarian efforts, regardless as to whether or not it affects his image. Indeed, it seems many people loathe him for speaking out on issues, for getting involved in the world. Heaven forbid. One gets the sense that he is searching to find meaning in his life; and via many of the films he's chosen to make and the causes he's lent his voice to, it seems there is a man of genuine focus and compassion. His back injury is ironic, because he's certainly got the backbone to stand by what he believes. My very favorite quote of his, responding to criticism about his involvement in Darfur:

“I’m sick of it. If your cynicism means you stand on the sidelines and throw stones, I’m fine, I can take it. I could give a damn what you think. We’re trying to save some lives. If you’re cynical enough not to understand that, then get off your ass and do something. If you’re angry at me, go do it yourself. Find another cause – I don’t care. We’re working, and we’re going forward.”
