Quite often crossing one's chest like that is a defence attitude.
I doubt if that applies to that picture though, it's just what the photographer wants usually.
The lighting is great IMO.

You are fine. it's body language or it could be if you are right handed the right arm goes over , one or the other.
i've read up on body language but, can't remember what the crossed arms are

That makes sense Michelle I cross my right hand over my left arm and I'm right handed. BUT George is right handed too and crosses his left hand over right arm. I guess it's going to go down as one of life's biggest unsolved mysteries. LOL

That's not how I see the photo. Turn your back and look over your shoulder and imitate the photo. Doesn't he have his right arm over his left?

Today I have seen The Artist and must say every award is well deserved. I would even give that dog an award. I would be suprised if someone other than The Artist or Jean Dujardin wins at the Oscars.
Sorry George but Jean Dujardin IS the artist.

Tom Hanks, George Clooney and Helen Mirren Make 'Movie: The Movie'

Are you prepared for the movie parody to end all movie parodies? Let's hope so, because Jimmy Kimmel is cooking up a post-Oscar prank starring pretty much all of Hollywood that's destined for legendary status.
It's called "Movie: The Movie," and Vulture has three exclusive posters from Kimmel's "After The Academy Awards" special that will blow last year's "Toddlers and Tiaras" spoof out of the water.
Helen Mirren throwing dynamite at a squid monster? Check. George Clooney on the phone with the President at NORAD? Check. Tom Hanks with a machine gun arm? That's a big CHECK.
In addition to that superstar firepower, Team Kimmel has Meryl Streep, Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Don Cheadle, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Cameron Diaz, and Samuel L. Jackson ready to blow you away… satirically. "M:TM" will launch itself on an unsuspecting world when "Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs right after the Oscars on ABC February 26th.

Looks like George had fun at the luncheon:

From CTV

Calgary animators joke with Clooney at Oscar luncheon

TORONTO — Oscar-nominated Calgary animators Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby managed to get a chuckle out of George Clooney at the recent Academy Awards nominee luncheon.

"Our producer in Los Angeles, who produces commercials with us, he introduced George to me and said, 'And Wendy is nominated for short animation,"' Tilby, 51, recalled in a recent phone interview from Calgary.

"And then I said, 'And what is it that you do, or what is it you're nominated for?' -- just to be funny -- and he laughed. He was very jovial."

The witty duo also snapped a picture with the dashing star of "The Descendants" and got a taste of his drollery as they mingled "in close proximity to people like Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep and Glenn Close," said Forbis.

"From the Academy, we got these gigantic black hoodies with the Oscar embroidered on them and (Clooney) suggested to (Tilby) that she should not wear that on Oscar night," Forbis, 48, said laughing via speakerphone from her home.

"They're all, like, men's large. We wore them to badminton night to impress our neighbours."

Article from Contact Music:

Oscar Nominations 2012: Will There Be A Shock On Sunday?
The 84th Annual Academy Awards comes live from Los Angeles on Sunday (February 26, 2012), with several categories wonderfully poised and others looking like foregone conclusions. As has been well-documented, the silent French flick The Artist is almost certain to take home the Oscar for Best Picture, with its director Michel Hazanavicius also likely to take home an award for his filmmaking.

It was Martin Scorsese's movie 'Hugo' that stole the headlines when the nominations were announced in January - the family fable has 11 nods including for Best Picture and Best Director. History suggests the film with the most nominations often takes home the evening's top award, though Hugo beating The Artist would easily be considered the biggest Oscar-upset of the past decade. In the acting categories, George Clooney was the runaway favorite with the bookmakers for Best Actor when the nominations were announced, though he appears to be losing ground to The Artist's Jean Dujardin, who is now joint-favorite. Brad Pitt and Gary Oldman would no-doubt be popular choices for the award, though their well-received turns in 'Moneyball' and 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' respectively are still unlikely to win silverware. Perhaps the tightest category to call at this year's Oscars is Best Actress, with Meryl Streep no longer considered the favorite for her role in 'The Iron Lady'. The Help's Viola Davis is now fancied to take that award, though she faces further competition from Michelle Williams and Rooney Mara.

This year's Academy Awards will be hosted by veteran comedian Billy Crystal, with presenters including Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise and BEN STILLER.

Clooney! Hanks! Mirren! Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars spoof outtakes -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO
by Dan Snierson

Jimmy Kimmel is known for giving you a high-wattage comedic jolt during his Oscar Night special. Last year’s show included a Hottie Body Hump Club bit that boasted Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara and Lindsay Lohan among others, as well as a Toddlers & Tiaras spoof starring Tom Hanks. In 2010, the Handsome Men’s Club counted Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Sting, and Rob Lowe among its members. This year, though, Jimmy Kimmel Live! is pulling out all the celebrity stops: George Clooney, Hanks, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Don Cheadle, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Samuel L. Jackson, Cameron Diaz… (taking a moment to rest fingers)… Jason Bateman, Edward Norton, J.J. Abrams, Biel, Tyler Perry, Colin Farrell, Antonio Banderas and Ryan Phillippe have signed on to Movie: The Movie, which is being billed as the “biggest, greatest, most star-studded film in the history of American cinema.” Better still, this film is not yet rated!
Want to lean more about this epic project and check out some bonus footage that you won’t get to see on Sunday night? Below are outtakes from the fictional press junket for Movie: The Movie, in which Clooney, Hanks, Cheadle, Mirren, and Jackson discuss their connection to the blockbuster. Turns out, Mirren came into this project in a very low-budget way. Oh, and get ready to learn something from Hanks about Forrest Gump and Bosom Buddies that might fry out your circuitry.
The 7th Annual Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Academy Awards special, which airs after the local late news on ABC, also features appearances by Oprah Winfrey and Billy Crystal, while Coldplay serves as the musical guest.

The Artist star Uggie unleashes jack russell craze

London Battersea Dogs & Cats Home braced for further surge in number of people searching for jack russells as The Artist and its canine star Uggie target Oscar success

Silent movie The Artist has sparked a surge in demand for jack russell terriers, according to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Audiences were charmed by the antics of its star turn, terrier Uggie, and many have now contacted the charity in search of their own canine leading man.

Almost 630 people looked on the Battersea website for a jack russell when the Baftas took place on 12 February – more than double the number who browsed the website specifically for this breed on the previous Sunday, and more than any other night of the year so far.

In the week following the Baftas, jack russells were the second most popular breed rehomed by Battersea, beaten only by Staffordshire bull terriers, of which there are many more in the charity's three homes. Before the Baftas, jack russells were the fifth most common breed to find new owners through Battersea in February.

With the Oscars taking place this Sunday, the home is bracing itself for another peak in demand and is hoping its current jack russell residents will find new owners. Last year, jack russells made up 8.4% of the dogs who came into Battersea.

Battersea's rehoming co-ordinator Carly Perry said: "Jack russells are always a popular breed here at Battersea, but this current increase in demand is giving them the opportunity to really enjoy their fame.

"Although we're pleased about this, we want to make sure people who do rehome their own Uggie are aware of the level of commitment required to own a pet, so their new four-legged friend can enjoy being the main attraction in a new home."

She added: "Deciding to take home an animal is a lifelong commitment – which in some cases can span to around 15 years – and your pet will require daily care and attention to be happy and healthy. Potential owners need to understand the breed and ensure they can provide the right environment for these dogs."

The Jack Russell Terrier Club of America warned that many dog owners, even experienced ones, are sometimes overwhelmed by the demands of looking after the dogs, "leading to them being abandoned even before they reach adulthood. Russells are first and foremost hunting dogs. The traits and skills that make them excellent hunting dogs – digging, barking, an aggressive nature and an ability to follow scent – are often interpreted as bad habits that cause people to give them up."

It added: "Today, jack russell terriers are hot! Tomorrow, those of us who are truly devoted to the breed will be paying the price for this surge in popularity with greatly increased use of our rescue system."

Uggie himself nearly ended up in a dog pound after being rejected by his first two owners for being too wild. He was adopted by animal trainer Omar Von Muller who only intended to foster the dog while finding him a new home, but decided to train him instead after finding Uggie to be smart and brave.

At the 2011 Cannes film festival Uggie won the Palm Dog award for his performance in The Artist, but Bafta decided the dog lacked the essential attribute of being a human and was therefore not qualified to compete in its 2012 awards.
Nevertheless, an editor at the website Movieline began a campaign called Consider Uggie on Facebook to seek recognition for his performance in the Oscars, saying that while the dog wasn't as good as George Clooney in The Descendants, he outperformed Leonardo DiCaprio in J Edgar.

Uggie is set to retire after the Oscars ceremony this weekend.

Oh no, the polls for Best Actor are trending toward The Artist. I hope they are wrong. I think if he loses it will be a very hard lose.
