Internet Censorship

Post by anon.4 on Sun Jan 15 2012, 07:35

Katie-my apologies if this is posted to the wrong place, but I am not sure where to put this and it will impact the open houses and bloggers in the United States.

Ok, the internet is under attack again, and the current legislation would basically mean COH, and any other website that uses media images from film, photos, etc, could and probably will be shut down for violating copyright. I call BULLSHIT on this, as major corporations seem to have no problem having videos, pics, etc. that they feel violate copyright yanked. Basically, it's an assault on our First Amendment rights and how we use the Internet. Anyways the bill is called Protect IP/SOPA . Please contact your Representative and Senator as this bill is being rushed along quickly and comes up for a vote on Tuesday, January 18th. More info and a video here http://vimeo.com/31100268

That's not likely to happen. The internet is too powerful a tool.

I'll bet celebrities would love the internet shut down though. Look at how much they could get away with without being spied upon.

Well, the good thing is that this is hosted in France by a British natinional living in Asia, so the US laws don't apply. The only problem is if then this site gets blocked in the US.

I read that this issue was brought up in November and turned down then. We can only hope it's turned down again.

I'm wondering if this has more to do with YouTube. People really are infringing on copyrights on YouTube without permission in many different ways. Since they can't just single out YT, it has to include everything. We always include the weblink to original articles/photos. Except for the few Getty photos that some members post in the Forum, don't think many can complain about this Forum.

OK, that takes me for 3 months!
One month - Katie and her couch
One month - It's Me and her terrace
One month - Joanna and her shed

Then I can be like George and wash, rinse and repeat!!

You'll need to wash and rinse a lot more often than that if you want to sleep on my sofas Mel!

My son was telling me about this , saying if this law is passed there goes your COH, over my dead body! Hopefully there will be too many against something like this passing, there's always a loop hole.
