Here's another rather dubious piece of gossip. I'm taking this with a big pinch of salt:

Gosling no-show angers Clooney?

By LINDA MASSARELLA

Last Updated: January 21, 2012

George Clooney publicly laughed off the fact Ryan Gosling was a no-show for last Sunday's Golden Globes.

In reality, Clooney was pretty peeved about being "stood up."

When the media asked Clooney, the director of The Ides of March in which Gosling was nominated for a best actor award, why his star hadn't shown up, Clooney forced a smile.

"He's in Thailand or something, and you know what you do in Thailand," Clooney jokingly alluded to the country's sex tourism industry.

But behind the scenes, the mega Hollywood heavyweight complained to several people how he only got an e-mail from The Notebook star just hours before the ceremony.

In the e-mail, Gosling tried to explain how he was suddenly "obliged" to start early filming of Only God Forgives in Bangkok. The film is being directed by Gosling's buddy, Nicolas Winding Refn, who also directed him in last year's Drive.

"He stood me up for another director!" Clooney was heard complaining about Gosling after the show.

"This is not cool," he added.

(At the time this article was written, it was still unconfirmed if Gosling was indeed in Thailand).

Fans were bitterly disappointed the Canadian dreamboat didn't attend the awards show. Especially since it was expected he would make an appearance with new va-va-voom girlfriend, Eva Mendes.

But it was Clooney who needed his heartthrob star there for the crucial publicity leading up to the Oscars. The Ides of March has a better chance of being nominated for and winning the Oscars if the cast shows a united front.

And if a film wins an Oscar or two, it makes that many more millions of dollars in subsequent sales. And since Clooney directed it, it would give the 50-year-old actor that much more behind-the-scenes clout.

In fact, making appearances at awards shows are part of the contract an actor signs when he agrees to be in a film -- think of it as a politician kissing babies and pressing the flesh leading up to the big election.

In an ironic twist, The Ides of March star Gosling lost the best actor award to Clooney (The Descendants). But that's beside the point.

"It's too bad he's not here," Clooney said again, on the record to local media. "I really wish he was."

It's common Hollywood knowledge that anyone can postpone any type of travel or movie schedule in order to attend an event as important as the Golden Globes.

Could Clooney's ire over Gosling's diss make other directors reluctant to work with the young star?

"Ryan Gosling is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood right now. But if he becomes known as untrustworthy, it is true directors could become reluctant to work with him," said an executive with Sony pictures.

On the other hand, the 31-year-old actor has always been known to march to the beat of a different drummer -- and that hasn't stopped the zillions of movie offers.

"He does his own thing," said Beau Willimon, the writer of The Ides of March.

It was just a few months ago that the overworked Gosling was threatening to quit movies altogether.

Hopefully, Gosling will get a chance to patch things up with his Ides of March boss in time for the Academy Awards on Feb. 26 -- that is, if Gosling and the movie are nominated.

Complete B.S. Ryan was pictured flying out of town and everyone knew he was going to Thailand so I doubt if it came as a huge surprise to George. Some press assumed he would be back in town for the awards wishfull thinking on their part. Besides how does showing up for work with a director make you untrustworthy to others? Ryan hasn't been to any of the award shows and George would be aware of what he was doing in Thailand if he got an email from Ryan. These folks are really spoiling for some bitching if it isn't Brad and George it's going to be Ryan and George. I predict we will get more silly stories like this one.

Ryan has been filming back to back for over a year maybe longer. He had sometime off for Christmas/New Year than flew to Thailand.
Dex is right on with her prediction, while waiting in line at Wal Mart who do I see on the cover of a mag? RG with the headline "How Eva Mendes seduced RG" no I didn't buy it, but the line was long enough for me to read it! Made EM out to be a fem-fatal who went after sweet Ryan with everything she's got. Now he's hooked and his mother is up set, yada-yada-yada.

Us Weekly was reporting on their website the morning of the Globes that Ryan wouldn't be there due to film commitments. I don't think it was a surprise to anyone.

The tone of this story made me think of teenage girls siting at a lunch table in a high school cafeteria. Especially the "It's common Hollywood knowledge that anyone can postpone any type of travel or movie schedule in order to attend an event as important as the Golden Globes." - OMG, he didn't even TRY to go, and it's like, so important, you know? "Hopefully, Gosling will get a chance to patch things up with his Ides of March boss in time for the Academy Awards on Feb. 26 -- that is, if Gosling and the movie are nominated." - He is totally not sitting with us anymore. I think this story is hogwash! George was very proud of Ryan's performance. And George would be the LAST one to hinder anybody's career that he admires. It's probably from people who adore Ryan and they're pissed that "the old man" would beat out their "young stud" for any award.

Probably from a journalist who doesn't get George's sense of humour. He sometimes says things that could be understood to be rude if you don't know that he doesn't mean them.

For example, calling Ryan a 'struggling actor' in his speech. I'm sure there's a few media people who took that literally.

Check it - Eva Mendes was photographed leaving her office with Ryan Gosling’s dog George the other day. She took him to work! Ryan is in Thailand. He’s obviously left G in the care of his lady. Just like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. And as I said in that case...

It must be love.

Love enough for her to go and visit him overseas? Not yet...but he’s there for months. It’ll happen.

I’ve received a few emails recently asking why Ryan Gosling wasn’t at the Golden Globes even though he’d been nominated. As noted then, he’s in Thailand working on a film with Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive. A ridiculous report has just surfaced about George Clooney being pissed at Ryan supposedly because he couldn’t make it to the awards show. Something about disrespecting him. And that everyone knows that any actor can get out of work to attend if he’s nominated.

Look, I’m all for sh-tting on Ryan Gosling for the pseudo uber hipster instrument playing, the fake Brooklyn accent, and all the other TRY examples we profiled last year. But this...this is absurd.

Only God Forgives is being made for less than $5 million, an independent film. And you want your actor to lose at least two days in travel, never mind rest, so that he can go to a dinner party where he won’t win? Or do you have him stay there, acclimate to the environment, (nobody shows up in Thailand of all places, drops their bags, and starts shooting), begin rehearsals, preparing for the work, so that when you roll, you waste as little time as possible so as to better use your dinky ass budget?

You know me. I’m all for two bitches being mad at each other. Love it. More of it. Please. But it has to be believable. It has to be sensible. It has to be more creative! George Clooney would never hold it against Ryan Gosling for staying in Thailand to work on his little film with an even littler bank account. NEVER.

He may however get mad at Ryan Gosling for bringing Elisabetta Canalis to a party. This hasn’t happened but I would believe that more than I believe this.

TAB: George Clooney “Cursed Out” Ryan Gosling for Missing Golden Globes

Truth rating: 0

January 25th, 2012

“A furious George Clooney cursed out his Ides of March co-star Ryan Gosling for blowing off the Golden Globes,” begins a breathless piece from the National Enquirer.

The mag claims that even though Gosling had a legitimate excuse to miss the show — he was filming Only God Forgives in Thailand — Clooney was still miffed about his absence.

According to so-called “sources” for the supermarket tabloid, Clooney “fumed to a group of showbiz execs in the lobby of the Beverly Hilton hotel following the Jan. 15 awards show,” allegedly ranting, “Ryan Gosling is a (bleep)! The (bleep) stood me up!”

The Enquirer notes that The Descendants star laughed off Gosling’s absence to reporters, joking that “he’s in Thailand… you know what you do in Thailand,” but claims that Clooney’s “jovial manner disappeared as soon as he was out of the spotlight.”

Another supposed “insider” for the tab blares, ”George called him every name in the book!”

Wow, that expression is almost as lame as this story.

Clooney was well aware ahead of time that Gosling would be missing the Globes to film his new movie, and was neither shocked nor angry about his co-star’s non-appearance.

A rep for Clooney tells Gossip Cop, ”It is total bullsh*t.”
