Many thanks to Henway for the link (the dodgy German translation is my own - happy for corrections from native speakers!)

Interview with actor George Clooney - he loves beer and motorbiekes as much as women!

Hello women, you must be very brave. Because here, the Hollywood star reveals that he loves motorcycles and beer just as much - at least.

? You are considered a private and passionate motorcyclist. How it came about and when was that?

! When I was 15. Since mid August I labored in the tobacco fields, until I could barely stand up straight because of back pain, in order to earn some pocket money. I was hoping to be able to buy a Harley, in cream and turquoise, with a chubby tank. But with the money that I finally put aside, I could hardly have been able to pay the chrome polish (Clooney laughs his Clooney laugh). Well, at least I got the sound of a motorcycle one day into my mind. There was a guy who worked on one of the plantations who was responsible. He owned a Moto Guzzi V7 Sport. That was an incredible thing. I remember the V2 and the integral brake system. I almost started to drool before this Moped. You just have to acknowledge that the Italians have a great talent for building beautiful machines.

? Do you remember your first moped?

! Yep. I had just shot a commercial for Panasonic and I then moved on to a kind of cop show called "Riptide". I played this as a bad guy who held three girls hostage. At that time I had no agent. To make people believe that I was a professional, I always left phone messages with myself as the agent of George Clooney. Once I really got an audition while I was living with my aunt - the late lamented singer Rosemary Clooney - went there with an old, rattling, stinking Mobylette. I parked outside the studio. Far out. Very far. The scooter has been a lot of noise. Worse, it has left oil stains in parking. I was very ashamed.

? Motorcycles and George Clooney isn’t that a love story?

! Yes. To date, the longest I had. They have rarely disappointed me (laughs).

? If we are not mistaken, didn’t you once make a commercial for a brand of motorcycle?

! No. That was for Fiat. The car. You see me on a hike on the shores of Lake Como. Suddenly I fall into a swoon before an admirable, orange-red car. I push my way into the interior, lower the seat. About to take a little nap. Until a charming Italian woman noticed that I have made myself comfortable in her car. She pulls out the remote control of central locking and locks me up in her Fiat. This ends quite wonderful, because the girl behind the wheel sets and makes me quite happy. The slogan: "Fiat Idea, George not included" I was not on the list of features. The filming was done a few steps away from my second home in Italy (in Laglio, Red) made.

? As an actor you are one of the world’s biggest stars. How does that fit the more shirt-sleeved motorcycle passion?

! The word star is pretty worn out today, I think. Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Cary Grant and Steve McQueen were stars. Daniel Day-Lewis and Dustin Hoffman are also stars. Tom Cruise is a star in his field. Incidentally, you know the difference between Cruise and Clooney? If I burn the clutch one of my Indians, then I work like an ox in order to bring them back home. Tom just calls his private jet.

? Before you became famous, you were once fairly broke and had to share with a motorcycle buddy. Is that true?

! That's right. I even slept on the toilet, because he had only a one room apartment. What I like about my motorcycle buddies is their openness, their brotherhood. If there is something to say, they don’t talk around the bush. For example when "Batman" came out they didn’t hide that they found my acting pathetic and the latex suit made them think of something similar that one of the "Village People" was wearing.

? In concrete terms, what the success has brought you?

! A lot of Harleys and Indians in my garage. Some financial foundation and the opportunity to make my dreams come true. If I had been famous when I was 20, I would have smashed hotel rooms to express my world-weariness. I escaped that - and the hotels too. But success has a downside: When I want to make an inspection I can’t go to the dealer, without being seen and beset by groupies.

? Stroll through wearing a balaclava ...

! In Alaska, it would be a possibility. In Southern California it is more difficult. Among other things, because a guy who wears a balaclava in 40 degrees in the shade makes everyone here think that he wants to rob the cash register. Okay, I could leave the helmet open, but I do not wear helmets.

? Over the years we’ve seen you on not a few motorcycles. And often very good-looking women were sitting on the back. Is a motorcycle still a good way to seduce women?

! The hit on a Harley stopped working. Perhaps because more and more women today ride those bikes themselves. I've even met some who could tell by the stroke of the engine or spend hours drinking Budweiser in the carburettor. The epoch of the Mackers, who dreamed of a thick handlebar motorcycle with the girl is gone. In short, the best advice I can give you is: give the women the opportunity come to you. You know, you can move heaven and earth, to spend a fortune on various gifts and fancy restaurants for hours under your windows play Cyrano de Bergerac for the poor, but in the end it is the woman who chooses.

? Time away from the motorcycle. In "The American" They embody a paid assassin who travels to Italy a boring Fiat Chroma. You are obviously not afraid to break the myth of George at times with a normal car. What do you drive in private?

! In Los Angeles I have my motorcycle next to a Tesla. This is an electric car, which in addition to his advantage to be very economical and fast, does not make any noise. The ideal sled for the paparazzi drive up quietly behind them and instill a little fear. Before I had a tango Tesla (ultra-compact, but faster electric small car, red), and I also own a Lexus hybrid. In Los Angeles, the traffic is so dense that I prefer to ride a motorcycle. I've tried to ride electric bikes, but the problem is that you do not hear the people. With a Harley that’s not a question. They hear you even before they see you in their rearview mirrors.

? You have previously mentioned that you have a house on Lake Como. Why did you choose Italy as a home?

! Because of the quality of its wines - I am a "professional drinker" - and because of prosciutto that melts on the tongue. Also, I've always been a big fan of European culture. Especially the architecture. In the States a 20-year-old building is demolished, because they no longer want to keep the old stuff. In Italy you can find buildings that are more than 2000 years old, and they are revered. By the way, I urge my fellow citizens on this, often times to travel outside the States, preferably in a country where you can eat something other than cheeseburgers. I also urge them not to wear socks in their sandals and not flowery shorts and T-shirts printed with beer brands.

? What’s a typical day like for George Clooney in the land of pasta?

! For the first week I sleep. Re-charging the batteries again. And when I’ve recovered, I take a boat and make a huge tour of the largest restaurants on the shore of the lake. And then I really dig in. Then I take a walk around the lake. The turns are tight, the narrow streets often, but damn it, how beautiful it is.

? You also sometimes go to Bike Tour with your friends?

! Yep. Brad Pitt is one of my accomplices. For Matt Damon it is not quite so. He’d rather sit on the back and take pictures.

? How do you explain that Brad (47) on the bike looks a lot younger than you?

! I can’t explain it! Is it my smile lines, wrinkled skin, my gray temples or my bad breath that makes me look older than the others? I ignore it. Maybe I could even refresh my skin with a cucumber mask? I do not know, would have to try. It also means that beer baths would rejuvenate old skin very effectively. If I could choose, I would prefer Budweiser. And then drink the bath ...

? You would take great part in the political life of your country. Do you aim one day to run for the Office of the President in the White House?

! How could we elect a guy who has a reputation as a bon vivant who has owned a pig and drives a motorcycle? In addition, I have sometimes taken hallucinogenic mushrooms and joints, so have really inhaled. Also, I'm too seriously addicted to beer, to be elected to the Oval Office. No, no, the risk that my past as a man of pleasure overtakes me one day, I'm really too big. I'm also not sure if it would be good, if the White House would approve if its president drives around on an armored motorcycle.

? Erinnern Sie sich an Ihr erstes eigenes Mopped?

! Yep.

? Ganz konkret, was hat der Erfolg Ihnen gebracht?

? Streifen Sie einen Sturmhaube über …

Was fahren Sie denn eigentlich privat?

Thanks Henway & Katie for the interesting article.
Now we know why he's not seen around for a while on Como and can picture him tucked up in bed with his teddy bear when
he's next there this year.
He's beginning to talk about his private life now and
we thank him for it !

It was probably the walk-in closet. They probably got it wrong in the translation.

In British English, a toilet is called a "water closet," or "closet." In American English, a closet is used to store clothes. A walk-in closet is just like a room itself, and can be big enough to put in a fold-away bed so that someone could sleep there in an emergency.

The German translator thought they were talking about a toilet. Down the pan
