George Clooney is making sense:
“I’m disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama, quite honestly, I am,” he said on ABC News Now’s “Popcorn with Peter Travers” before today’s release of “The Ides of March.”Democrats eat their own. Democrats find singular issues and go, ‘Well, I didn’t get everything I wanted.’ I’m a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people whom you’ve elected.
“If he was a Republican running, because Republicans are better at this,” Clooney continued, “they’d be selling him as the guy who stopped 400,000 jobs a month from leaving the country. They’d be selling him as the guy who saved the auto-industry. If they had the beliefs, they’d be selling him as the guy who got rid of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ who got Osama bin Laden. You could be selling this as a very successful three years.”
I’m more than disillusioned by these people. I’m sick and tired of them. When you have so-called progressives arguing that Bill Clinton has a better record on LGBT issues than President Obama does, there’s a serious problem. When you have progressives calling for President Obama’s impeachment based on nothing but the opinions of Glenn Greenwald, there’s a serious problem.
At this point, the Professional Left and their sycophantic gripers inspire more loathing in me than right-wingers.

This statement from George had kind of rubbed me the wrong way ever since it first came out. I get what he's saying, and he's partially right, that there are people who live to criticize, and don't give any allowances for the realities of governing as compared to the promises of a campaign. I'm a fan of the president's, and will be voting for him again. At the same time, I think there are legitimate criticisms to be made about how and when and what has been done, particularly from a progressive point of view.
I've often thought that George can be loyal to a fault when it comes to his friends (which is how I think a man with a good eye for a good script ended up in both Ocean's 12 and The Good German). And this might be one of those cases. He would be he first one making (and I believe he has made it in the past) the argument that it's not only our right but our responsibility to question our leaders. He must understand that holds true even for the guys he really likes.
And he's right about Republicans being better at the PR angle than Democrats are. If you took the president's name off his resume and showed it to Republican voters, they'd be erecting statues to the guy. You'd think Democrats could make some noise with his successes, but they can't. Too bad, this could be a lot simpler election for them if they could just take some lesson from the other side.
