Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
It has never happened in twenty years as stupid as George passed through in recent months, I do not know how to explain and you?

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
I think in part it's because we find out things about the girlfriends we couldn't before. With the internet their lives and choices they have made are there for all too see. The naked pictures, silly interviews and of course the tweeting etc. We can see that the press must have been tipped off and with Stacy she isn't even hiding it. George has probably always been this way it's just taken us a long time to work it out. I think some of us hope he will change and meet someone with some class and have a relationship that doesn't look like it's for Pr or an Oscar campaign. So we stick around.....

His age, there are certain behaviors that are more acceptable when you are in your twenties, thirties, but when you reach forty something people start to laugh,

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
I agree with what Dexter says so this isn't anything new in the past few months. Maybe you've only found out about this side of George recently?
His behaviour hasn't changed at all.
The women, who you think make him look so bad, haven't changed at all.
The fans who are new to this all think George has changed and the current girlfriend is making him look like an idiot. The fans have been saying this since he dated Krista back in 2000.
Nothing about his behaviour has changed in 10 years.
Nothing about the type of women he dates has changed in 10 years.
Not one of his girlfriends has ruined his career even though fans predict it every time he dates someone new.
Not one of his girlfriends has damaged his reputation or respect he gets, even though fans predict it every time he dates someone new.
Not one of his girlfriends have ever done a kiss'n'tell about him, even though fans predict it every time he dates someone new. (Remember how Sarah Larson was said by some fans to be both vindictive and a prostitute?).
It seems to me that generally we fans don't know what we're talking about.

Betty came close to damaging his reputation because of her cocaine clubbing. Berlusconi owned TV when she started as a veline so she has a tie to him.

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
Thanks Katie for your words of wisdom which I agree with.
George has never done a kiss&tell either, which I interpret as being HIS way of NOT TALKING about his private life. (Sorry if my grammar is a bit weird there)
IMO public red carpet appearances and paps pictures and his occasional jokey quip when interviewed doesn't count as
"talking about his private life"
Disclosing his feelings and day to day happenings in his life and discussing family matters does count as "talking about his private life" and IMO George doesn't do that.
Sorry if I haven't made myself very clear here
BTW is this thread about saying that George is a fool ?
No way do I think that he is a fool.

I beg to differ Katie. The tabs have been getting increasingly nastier about his "assumed sexual proclivities" over the last few years and speculation about him has never been this negative in the past. Yes, it's only public gossips like Dlisted and Celebitchy and the like, BUT they have quite a readership online and this trend of negative sarcasm, which has been aimed at him lately has gotten much, much worse since Sarah Larson. And the "blinds" alluding to him have increased as well over the same period.
And whether you are willing to acknowledge this or not, the effect HAS done some damage to his stellar reputation with the general audiences, that he so painstakingly built over the years.

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
I think now George's women could start to affect his career. For one thing gossip is very different than it used to be. Fans have always loved the dirt, but now it comes so fast and everywhere with the amount of blogs and sites on the internet. Also, as someone else said behavior that was acceptable and even admired at 30 and 40 looks a bit skeevy and tired in your 50's.
I think his choice of women lately, which you guys are right is the same kind of woman for at least a decade but remember he is a decade older they are not, has a little bit more to do with the age old trying to look younger. I know he says it doesn't bother him, but he is in an industry that really shoves youth down your throat. I think there might be a part of it that if he can show he can be with a younger woman he is still plausible for the leading man roles. I know he likes to do more mature type of movies, but he has said many times in order to make the movies you want you need to make a few that just sell tickets. Looking at his movies lately it is about time for one that just sells a lot of tickets.

I don't see how he could possibly think that him being with a younger woman would make him seem younger. In his latest movies he certainly plays a 'mature' man involved with a mature woman. IMO his latest flings are just for show.
Of course he can get any woman he wants, he's George Clooney and rich. In my opinion I think he should fire his PR team. LOL

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
Doesn't any one think that possibly he sticks to "young" women as opposed to women closer in age to him could be because he is a man who has an enormous amount of energy and wants to be with people who will expend a like amount of energy. Women, in general, as they gain age, gain wisdom, and find more sedate ways to expend their energy. No so much physical energy used and more mental energy expended. (Not talking about sex here). I don't think George wants cerebral in his leisure or down time. He's more into jokes, pratfalls, basketball, Harleys, and the like. A woman or girl, if you pefer, in her late 20's, early 30's is more likely to go along with that type of behavior, while a woman in her late 30's, early to mid 40's would say go have your fun with The Boys, I'll be here when you get back.
People in general (not us critical fans) go to the movies to see what appeals to them. They see trailers on TV and Internet, or perhaps at the movies and form their desire to see the movie. IOM, most thought of as a political movie, and those that went to see it went with that idea in mind. TD is more of a "feel good" film, and will sell well, IMHO. The distribution was a slow one, first 29 theaters, then 425. I think, personally, this was done because of TWILIGHT. If it had been a general distribution, it would have been hammered right into the ground. I made over $1 million in that first 4 day showing in 29 theaters. I think that is pretty good.
His "fans" here at COH are really rarely satisfied these days with anything George does. You are supercritial of everything he does. You complained when he wasn't "showing himself" and getting papped, you complained when he showed up on red carpet with SK. Some of you really sound like you really hate him because he isn't living up to YOUR STANDARDS. He doesn't have to, you know. He only has to live up to HIS STANDARDS, and we don't know what they are, now do we? Again, as has been said by some before (me included),
WE ONLY KNOW WHAT GOES ON IN HIS PUBLIC LIFE. We, not one of us, knows what goes on in his private life, behind closed doors, or even just behind his closed gate at Casa de Clooney or Villa Oleandra. I feel he should be given the benefit of the doubt, and not be labeled a Fool but those who judge him on gossip and gossip publications. Is it really too much to ask that you ladies, who are reasonably intelligent, not believe more than 1% of what is written and said about ANY of the celebrities of today. Innocent until proven guilty should be the watchword, because if you feel that he's guilty until he proves himself innocent (in your eyes), you have lost an important part of your heart.
I love you all, but in honestly, some of you I'm liking less and less as the days go by.

I'm with you 100% patty. I'm the last one to judge him on his 'standards'. This latest Stacy show is all for PR and I've said it a dozen times. I don't know if he appreciates it, I personally think he's going on with it just for publicity. Don't know if he anticipated all the nasty comments about him on some other blogs, but he's into it now and I don't think he wants to show up with a more 'mature' woman now before oscars.
If his PR team is smart they'll ask him to show up with his mother at the next premiere or oscar. IMO

Does he really need the publicity? He always looks like he enjoys his new ONE in the beginning, it's after the 1 year time line or near it he begins to look unhappy. I don't really care any longer who he dates, I have found that I like when he promotes his films without the new girlfriend hoopla.

Georges women are starting to affect his RESPECT and no one can deny that! I NEVER, recall as many people making fun of him before...There has been a HUGE change in the things people say about him today, as oppossed, to the things they said about him in 2005, when I started following him.
This one is definitely making a fool of him ,with the speed of a twitter, she undermines everything he says, about the privicy of his relationships. It is a shame that the mistick of the man no longer exsists. Pattygirl, older women and energy, I beg to differ with you. I know women who sail, golf, ride bikes, horses, ski ect. all while there daughters are at home on there computers!

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
I don't really think George personally is a fool, but George Clooney the brand is being a bit foolish. All movie actors are brands this is the reason PR people try to create an idea that sells. Not necessarily to his fans, who like to complain but still love him, but to the industry executives too.
IOM and TD are great movies that will make money for the studios, but no matter how they are marketed or released they won't be what the studios consider big or surprising hits. By him being an A-list star, his movies are expected to do at least a certain amount of business, if they don't it is a failure. These movies just don't have the mainstream mostly young audience appeal that makes it a big hit. I think George is smart and since he hasn't had a large commercial success since the Ocean's Movie he might feel some pressure to keep his name out there as a viable leading man in a more commercial movie, because as he has said numerous times he uses the commercial clout to make the movies he wants. I just think he made a miscalculation. Not sure why but Stacy makes him look old and kind of Hugh Hefnerish. He certainly won't drop her for a more mature woman before the award season this would look worse. We might get lucky and he'll show up with his mom, but don't count on it.
Selling entertainment is all about the young market. You get older than 40 and most major advertisers want nothing to do with you. This really hasn't changed much recently. I know it isn't fair and certainly short sited but it is reality. Trust me I buy advertising media and do product placement and the 40+ demo's are rarely used unless for a purely older product. It is changing but every so slowly.
I am not so sure I agree about the energy thing though. He's the one who seems to be falling apart with his surgeries and injuries. I am around a lot of women in their 40's that are very active, running marathons and other things. I am sure he could find someone that would be able to keep up with him. Now the only thing I would say is an older more established woman is more likely not going to drop everything to just hang around him, but just on this site I'll bet he could find a few.

Perfectly said Madsky. I still don't understand how his PR could think Stacy could complement him. It's not like she's a child but she acts immature for a 32 year old, almost like a teenager. And standing next to him she makes him look small and much older than his years.
An older woman mostly has her own agenda. And I honestly don't think anybody, not even fans on this site would be able to drop everything to be with him.

Stacy, I do not know why, but I think that cancels his charm, his sex appeal. Perhaps because it is too high and because it is too big or doll (Barbie), or because he has always that smile on his face ....... boh!cindigirl wrote:madsky wrote:Now the only thing I would say is an older more established woman is more likely not going to drop everything to just hang around him, but just on this site I'll bet he could find a few.

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
Lets agree that we have opinions about everything, no matter how ill-informed, one-sided, or self-serving that opinion may be, we have a compulsion to not only share it, but to try to inflict it on each other. I think it is national obsession. And most of the people on COH are very observant and intuitive.
Patty said:
“”Some of you really sound like you really hate him because he isn't living up to YOUR STANDARDS. He doesn't have to, you know. He only has to live up to HIS STANDARDS, and we don't know what they are, now do we?”"
I wouldn’t go as as far as to say that we hate him, it will be totally a waste of our time without any meaning. We are not connected to him on any personal level , so how we can have any real feelings towards him outside the fantasyland???, but we can talk and talk on the forum that is what we are coming here for.
I agree that his fans expect him to live up to some kind of standards, but is it not the same expected from all of us in our lives??. Whatever we do and wherever we go, we are expected to behave and act to some standards that society at large accepts. I know that when I go to the office, I have to adhere to some rules. And my boss expect me to follow them. In private life officially, we can do whatever we want but I am very sure that any eccentric behaviour which would be made public, the boss or the company would have a lot to say as my actions infringes on the image of my company. This is called being professional. And as we accent higher in our our accomplishments , expectations of our public and private life rise in a public eye. And I would think this is how we look at Mr.G.C. He is a public figure (I know, Hollywood is a different land) but as an actor and producer he accepted his fans and public in general to be his bosses. We are the ones who are paying for tickets to see his movies. And if his reputation goes down so will a number of his fans.
Like Lucy said:
“His age, there are certain behaviours that are more acceptable when you are in your twenties, thirties, but when you reach forty something people start to laugh”.
And majority of his fans are close to his age. How many teenagers will vote for him?? They like young idols. If they want to go over an actor, they will go for A. Kutcher.
G. is too old for them. And yes he is at the top, great actor but people said those same things about Ch. Sheen. And where is he now?? Because he thought that being good actor is enough, so he can go crazy in his personal life. So in the way, G. career depends on older fans and their expectations from him. And I agree with few posters from the forum that lately his behaviour is ”nothing to write home about”. He should take under consideration that the internet , fb, tweeter can bite him in the a*** really hard if he is not careful. He does have power and money to keep his private life private, he should use it. He doesn’t need PR girlfriends to lift up his career ( he can have fun with them in private), he doesn’t need arrogant interviews. He should be above it all.
Patty said:

I am sorry to hear that, because what I like the most about this forum ARE THE PEOPLE who post here, and it does not matter to me if I agree with their posts or not.. They are smart, funny, nice and most of the time very kind to each other.

I am sorry to hear that, because what I like the most about this forum ARE THE PEOPLE who post here, and it does not matter to me if I agree with their posts or not.. They are smart, funny, nice and most of the time very kind to each other.

Have to agree with you lighter side. He doesn't get the same respect he did in the past.
I'm currently reading a book about how we shape our own lives by the choices we make. Our lives are built on the series of choices we make over the years. If we don't like where we are in our lives we only need to look back at all the choices we made that led us to our present lives.
IMO George's choices have shaped the pattern of disrespect he is receiving in the press and with some of his long time fans.
But none of this fazes George. As it's been said, not much has changed in George's life. The only thing that changes is the color of the hair. I think his next gal-pal should be a red-head. Just to break it up a bit. And NO, I'm not a red-head!
Here are some pics of red-heads. The first gal seems just to be George's type. The second gal is the right age! Brahahahaha!

Don't you think that's more because of a change in the way the media write about celebrities in general? Sites like Celebitchy, I'mnotobsessed, Lainey drunkenstepfather and Dirt (the one that's just posted that funny article about George thinking Stacy is a Keebler, not a Keibler) didn't exist 7 years ago and neither did that style of journalism, not to the extent it exists now.phys major wrote:Georges women are starting to affect his RESPECT and no one can deny that! It's only been the past five years or so when the gossip magazines starting printing unflattering pictures of celebs as a routine (often putting a red circle around the armpit sweat stain, cellulite or whatever other defect they're showing).
It's not just George getting it, it's all celebrities.

Hey Mel, I watch over my red and green ratings like a mother hen LOL - so let me tell you that even if someone already has a green rating if you vote + again you can rate their "clooney-licious" rating a point higher. Just a little trivia, not trying to tell anyone what to do.

I agree with you Katie. Before Celebrities were really put up on a pedastool and could do know wrong. Even some secrets were kept from the public there was a level of respect. Now days times have changed and I think in part because of the reality television stars. Also the tabloids have found how bad behaving celebs sell magazines even more then the good behaving ones. The worse they can make them out to be the more they sell. George keeps dating tacky girls and the press are now not just noticing but writing about it. PR has changed too look at Kim K she got her start doing a sex tape and has made a career out of all the attention. 20 years ago that wouldn't have happened!

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
His credibility has gone downhill that's a fact.
That's what happen when your actions don't match your words, I'm talking about the private girlfriend as he defined her and the "I want my private life private" thing.
I hope he doesn't read what is said about him on the internet but even if he reads I'm sure he doesn't care just like he doesn't care about people going to see his movies.
I also hope for him that the staff from nestle, omega, mercedes and all the brands that pay him millions to represent them don't read the comments made about him neither. If they do they should start thinking about a new strategy that doesn't sell him as a classy, elegant and debonair man but as the shallow guy he really is instead - but that wouldn't sell. Or maybe they should replace him by someone who really has class considering that he probably makes more money with advertisement than he does with his movies I'm sure he would care more if that happened.
I don't believe Stacy is a PR girlfriend, I do believe that he is and always has been attracted by that type of girl.
Considering his dating record, Stacy with her lap dances, strip teases and sophisticated performances as a wrestler is the perfect girl for him. I believe it when she says that it's love, only love make people make asses of themselves. The two are proportionals, usually the more you're in love the more you make a fool of yourself so considering how ridiculous he's been looking recently he is head over heels for her and so is she ( though I'm not sure yet if she's head over heels for him or for herself).
I don't believe neither that he is gay, if he was he would choose a better looking and classier girl to cover it, gay men have better tastes than that.
Besides he is no better than the girls he dates and IMO he is a cheater, to me it's so obvious that he started doing Stacy months before it ended with Elisabetta and her "reward" for remaining silent all those months has been her first red carpet only two months after the official breakup.
There was absolutely no reason for her to present herself shamelessly and alone in front of photographers from the whole world at a serious film festival. If I remember correctly there isn't any category for classy wrestling performances, compulsive tweeteros and/or gym-cleansing obsessed girls at the Toronto Film Festival, if there are I'm sorry I missed them. But I don't blame her for doing it she has a career to promote or to launch, it was the chance of her life so more power to her for daring, I do blame him for giving her such an important event to get the spotlight she would never have had on her own merit.
When I think about it why else would he have officially denied the comment about bringing a new girl to the festival of Venice so fast (that sentence could have easily been taken as a sarcastic joke if he had said it). I believe he did deny it because there was indeed a girl except that she was not that new - not to him at least - and he didn't want someone to use that comment against him because if there's one thing he cares about is it's his image.
On a more optimistic note I do hope he will marry her or settle down seriously with her and make her the stay at home mom she's always wanted to be, that way she might stay at home and spare us that stupid smile she plastered on her ridiculously botoxed face once and for all.
There was a time when it was still ok for him to have an arm candy but I don't think he can get away with it anymore.
He's the only so called a-list actor who look so dumb (except for tom cruise). Many other actors date much younger women, Robert Redford is married to a woman who is 21 year younger than him, Robert Duvall is with a woman that is 25 or 30 year younger, Viggo Mortensen is with a woman who's 19 year younger and I'm sure there are many other I can't think of but none of them look like such an idiot because they do keep their private life private and they don't parade their woman like trophies the way Clooney does.
Sorry if it's messy and sometimes out of subject but I had to get it out of my chest.

When I started this post was not thinking about what the newspapers or the Internet gossip sites saying George (we all know that the 50/60% of what they write is invented), I was not referring to his new girlfriend (beautiful or not beautiful , stupid or intelligent) I was referring only to the behavior and statements of George. And 'a man of 50 years not only beautiful but also intelligent, affable, kind, but it seems that in recent months have forgotten these qualities. I remember the poor journalist in Toronto, interview the people who goes to see his movies, la'intervista the Italian newspaper as saying that Venice would be presented with a tuxedo and a new girl and then pissed off with all the Italian newspapers who had published the news and then 10 days after what he did? Esste the Internet for years, and news and pictures of him there are thousands of twitter and facebook does not exist a few months, we do not blame the web of his behavior.

With all due respect to your comment about our standards Pattygirl, if we admire and follow him it's because at some points the way he presents himself matched our standards. I personally got a crush on the suave, classy and debonair image he sold us for years. HE created that image so I think we are allowed to be disappointed by his behavior when it doesn't fit our standards even if he doesn't owe us anything. I'm sure our critics don't prevent him from sleeping. At our level of simple fans we can't do that much arm to him. The only impact our critics have is on ourselves and how good we can feel by sharing our opinion. Our critics are a small price to pay considering what fame provided him with.

Lula-mae he is "George Clooney" because it is a good actor, an affable and friendly but "George Clooney" also because he found people like us who go to see his movies, we who worship him, we stop if we generally follow why let us down, because what it does not meet the most, you know as soon cease to be "George Clooney"?

I think this is the most interesting part of a forum: different opinions.
I want/try to understand our man. To be able to understand, I must also see things from another perspective than my own. I am glad that other posters share their point of view with me, which gives me the opportunity to change the angle of my perspective.
It is interesting to observe, that his fans who past his age range (33+) are more protective of him than the others (33-) who are more critical. LOL

HEY SAD DONKEY I AM OVER 33 AND I DEFINITELY DO NOT FEEL PROTECTIVE OF HIM.
George use to be my image of a James Bond, but now it has gone down
the toilet. I am not quite sure if it was the Rolling Stone interview or claims to want a private life which is really public or the way he paraded Stacy on the red carpet. I use to think it was funny and entertaining about all his girlfriends, but now it is getting old.
I am not a bige Eli fan, but I do agree with some of you that he started dating Stacy way before August. I think they are a couple, but I don't think it is marriage serious. If he was so serious about her why didn't they spend Thanksgiving with his family or even hers. When your in love with somebody and you have a good relationship with your family, you want to share the person you love with your family, let them get to know that person.
Stacy will be around until she needs more out of the relationship and he won't be able to give it. There are a lot of couples in Hollywood who are 20 years apart, but they keep low profiles you never really see them in the gossip sites. George even said in the article George Clooney: sex, lies and next generation, which is on a thread.
I've always had good luck with the girls. However, what really matters to me is the clan of friends and girlfriends. They are generous, provided you do not ask me more than I can give. ". "
This is one of the few statements I believe is true. He loves being with these women or girls as he calls them, until they ask too much of him.
I don't believe you have to get married or have children to be truly happy. I know plenty of couples who never got married or have children but are prefectly happy. Matter of fact I don't think George should get married, because it would probably only last a few years, either she would be unhappy or he would. I don't want to see him have a child in his 50's. As a early childhood teacher and special education teacher for 20 years, older men having children is usually a disaster for the child.
Anyway that is all I have to say for now.

Re: Why George in the latter period is the figure of the fool?
For the record, I'm 33 and 3/4, so I'm straddling the line here...
The age of George's girlfriends doesn't disturb me quite as much as who they are. If he were dating 32-year-old lawyers, doctors, artists, that would be fine. Sure, Robert Redford's wife is 22 years his junior, but she's an accomplished painter in her own right. Robert Duvall is a staggering 41 years older than his wife, who was a marketing director when they met and now runs a charity they started together. George's girls, for the most part, are college educated (to some extent), come from middle class backgrounds, and appear to have had every opportunity to make something of themselves, yet they choose the easy way out (taking off their clothes for money) every time. I don't have much respect or patience for that.
George is often compared to Warren Beatty, but I think that's false. Warren dated a LOT of women, sure, but he dated women who were his equals in some way - he dated Diane Keaton, Faye Dunaway, and Maria Callas, for pete's sake! To my mind, George is Jack Nicholson - dating women far too young for far too long, until it (and he) became a joke.
I'm becoming less and less enamored of Mr. Clooney, even when the girlfriend factor is removed from the equation. The dismissive "I don't care if people see my movies" attitude, the hypocritical "how DARE you ask me about my private life" / "hey wanna see some pictures of us on vacation?" stance, and the cheating (I'm with those who believe the George and Stacy show has been going on longer than we know) have combined to make me think I've been mistaken about the kind of person he is. And I can only speak for myself, but I keep coming back and following him because I hope he'll prove me wrong and turn it around, and someday we can say, "Remember when George lost his mind for a few years? That was weird."
