That is sad and I'm very sorry for her!!! However, the old saying "the show must go on" still holds true today. I'm truly not trying to be mean, but we will see how professional she really is; whether she comes back to continue her role.

Exactly Sisieq. Again, reinforcing sympathy to the family, it sounds as if she had been ill and maybe they were expecting this? I don't know. But, there's nothing that can be done now for her. The show is still 3 days away and many people are depending on her to be there. Not being mean or snotty, other professionals have continued their jobs and then taken time off for their way of grieving. And, yes, I would say this about anybody, not just because it's Eli. I'm really not heartless.

Yes, one doesn't have to be in showbusiness when it comes to job responsibilities under these circumstances. I've missed funerals for aunts and uncles because of my job. Granted grandparents are different. Maybe she just left for the funeral. If she misses alot of practice days, well.........,

Oh, I'm sure George will send his condolences and possibly send flowers. Obviously can't speak for him whether he would fly over for the funeral. He has major responsibilites with filming that it would be understandable for him to have to stay and film. I don't think anyone should hold that against him (not saying anyone here will, but talking about posters elsewhere) and show proof that he didn't care or that proves they have broken up.

Again, not being mean and I, too, would say this about anyone. I think it was written once that she was very close to her grandmother. However, the dance sequences that will have to be dropped if she doesn't come back hurts the "extras" that would have been working with her. Don't know if the same men will be working with Belen's dances, too, or different guys. Though, I would hope the guys will still get paid if EC doesn't come back.

I'm just thinking that if EC doesn't come back, they could find someone who is a quick learner and lean the routines. Otherwise, they will need to find something to fill that time period.

I'm not sure how it works in Italy,but in Mexico I was always surprised at how fast they have their funerals after a death.Sometimes less than 24hrs.,it would be tough but she might make it if she has 3 more days.

Interesting about Mexico. I know that the majority of Jewish people are the very next day, unless its not possible for some reason.

And, I think that his responsibilities here are much grander than her part in SanRemo. I agree that all people involved in her performances (extras) would either have to help train someone else or just forgo those performances. As far as George is concerned, her grandmother is not blood-related to him, nor are he and Eli married, so his lack of not being there because of his work responsibilities would be nothing more than that. I am sorry her grandma died. Although I think she will still do San Remo. Far too late to put anyone else in they have been rehersing for a couple of weeks. They could pull her routines, but I don't see her not doing this. As for George I think some will paint him as an uncaring sod if he doesn't show up to be with her. Work or no work! But I agree he doesn't need to be they aren't married or even seem that close, he will probably send flowers. At least she is with her family.

I think she will go back to San Remo it is a big break for her. It will be a test of the ole the show must go on adage. It depends on when the funeral is and how upset she is about it. Over here it can take several days to arrange a funeral.

Actually I think George being there or not will say a great deal about his relationship with Eli, he was working in LA at the time Richard Kinds father died in NY a Jewish funeral that probably took place within 48hrs of him hearing about the death. He managed to organize a private plane for him and ‘the boys’ so they could be there with Richard. Richard wasn’t expecting them at all and was very grateful and touched that they came.

Grant could look after the shoot for the 2 days tops it would take him to get there and back, if Eli really means that much to him he will be there. If work is more important than her in her time of grief then it’s obvious where his heart truly lays ( if anyone really has any doubts). After all these people are not strangers to him, he has met the grandmother and stayed in her house last summer and he has had two family holidays with her parents

He has said friends and family are the most important thing in his life , lets see if he classes Eli in that group. It’s not as if he is likely to get fired if he goes. My guess is he won’t go, the excuse will be that he didn’t want the funeral to be all about him, a reasonable excuse but still an excuse because if George ‘really’ wanted to be there to support Eli nothing would stop him.

It will also be interesting to see what Eli does, she’s in a no win situation, if she goes back to work she will be reviled for being a heartless fame addict whose San Remo gig was more important to her than her families grief, if she goes back and breaks down on stage which would be highly likely under the circumstances, she will be accused of milking the publics sympathy and making the whole event about her. If she cancels on them she will be reviled for leaving the organizers in the lurch, maybe even accused of welcoming an excuse to not appear because she’s not up to the job.

I can't see George coming to the funeral - why would he? If he cared enough about Betty he would have scheduled a trip to Italy for San Remo into his working schedule but I doubt we'll see him in Italy.

I'm sorry for Ely's loss - it's always hard losing a loved one. I guess we'll find out soon enough if she comes back to the festival and if George went over there or not.

Very well put Emerald you said everything I have been feeling. It will be very telling to see what happens. The festival goes for five days a few tears would be understandable. And really george could take a little time off if he wanted too! No one working on his project would lose money if he did go.

No way she has a no win situation. We are truly sorry for her but doesn't matter what is happening in her real life, the Sanremo show must go on. 48 hours to her most important gig and she has signed a contract. She must be there. It would be nice if she dedicated her gig to her Grandma tho.

Having said that, the show must go on. She will perform if she's a dedicated and professional performer, just as Marie Osmond performed right after her son's suicide and will take her place among the many other performers who have had personal losses and continued with their scheduled work. She will put aside her loss as best she can and she will smile for the camera and perform her rehearsed spots and in between she will be consoled by those around her to help her get through it.

Elisabetta Canalis Needs to Play Hard-to-Get to Get a Ring from George Clooney

George Clooney, 49, has been dating 30-year-old Italian actress and model Elisabetta Canalis since July 2009. While the body language in their photos usually connotes a lot of chemistry, after 1.5 years of dating, George doesn't sound ready. A few excerpts below have made me think that if Elisabetta wants marriage and kids from George, she will have to ramp up her hard-to-get game in order to get her ring.

Us Weekly: In an interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, George said "I was married. Yeah, so I've proven how good I was at it, and I just...I'm allowed one."

Zimbio: "Elisabetta is pulling the dumbest move in the book - issuing a marriage ultimatum to George. Sources claim that she's not really asking for the ring, she just wants the promise of a ring."

Vanity Fair: "The idea of being so loved is overwhelming," Canalis said. "George has given color back to my life. I feel great - it's as if I am 18 years old again!"

So, why do I think that Elisabetta will need to play hard-to-get in order to get her ring?

1. After 1.5 years of dating Elisabetta, George went on a talk show and said that he has no interest in being married. His open expression demonstrates that he does not care much about whether he hurts Elisabetta's feelings. He didn't even offer up anything like, "well, were I to marry, Elisabetta would be the one." In other words, he gave her nothing to hope for. A man who really loves a woman would never tell the world that there is no chance he will marry. Elisabetta should start thinking long and hard about seeing other men and realize that George is not the only game in town.

2. On that note, even though Zimbio is saying that Elisabetta is making a dumb move issuing an ultimatum, what choice does she have? Sticking around and crossing her fingers, hoping George will marry her is no way to live life and wreaks havoc on self-esteem. Personally, I think Elisabetta should push for the ring and not just a promise ring. George has been with her for 1.5 years, they've spent plenty of time together, and he knows who she is. He either wants it by now or he doesn't.

One suggestion for Elisabetta is to go into No Contact. Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider, co-authors of The Rules: Time-Tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right define No Contact as when a woman cuts off all communication and ceases to date a man until he proposes. Were Elisabetta to go into No Contact, she would find out her answer much sooner than waiting around, potentially for years. This would involve putting her feelings on hold all because she is worrying about why George doesn't want to marry.

3. Lastly, Elisabetta is talking to the press about her relationship with George and how he makes her feel. He's telling the world he doesn't want to marry while she's saying "it's overwhelming to be so loved." The fact that they are saying two totally different things means that Elisabetta is obviously letting George know just how much she loves him. When a man knows how in love a woman is with him, he typically stops working to get her attention. George is picking-up on the fact that he doesn't have to try as much and will take Elisabetta for granted later. This is all the more reason for her to go into No Contact and start dating others.

Of course, it goes without saying playing hard-to-get might not yield the ring Elisabetta so desires. The situation might be so far gone that marriage will never happen between the two. Some would say that not marrying doesn't mean that they can't be happy. After all, look at Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. The difference there, though, is that Goldie doesn't want to marry. Whenever a man doesn't want to marry and the woman does, it never bodes well for the woman.

Truthfully, George might not ever marry (spare the comments about how he's gay). I predict that even if Elisabetta does get a ring out of George that he will drag his feet on marrying her for several years. If he doesn't propose, then she should move on, find another man, and continue to . . .
