Thanks for the video link!

SK gives a great "appearance" while dancing, but she reminds me when LS did the Brit version - you can tell alot of work went into the effort, but still stiff in the body, IMHO. Good, but not great.

katie - I have no issue with a differing opinion, just the tone in how it was conveyed. It implied (how I read it) to belittle and mock anyone who is not a Betty fan.

And opposing your opinion, just because she bedded GC doesn't make her special or worthy in some way of praise or adoring write ups. That act does not warrant respect, consideration or unconditional fan support from his fanbase. She shagged him for 6 months then they spent half their time apart in different countries. So yeah, I think he could handle difficult, high maintenance and stupid for good, kinky sex that amount of time. Lord knows lots of people do.

Betty must read here and noted an earlier comment I made - she did a pap "candid" in LA. At Barneys no less.

Elisabetta Canalis Browses Barneys New York

Elisabetta Canalis leaves Barneys New York on Friday (August 19) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 32-year-old Italian model and actress, who brought along her two dogs, sat on the bench near the valet stand while waiting for a taxi.

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Elisabetta Canalis

Elisabetta is just one of a few celebs rumored to be joining the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

Rob Kardashian and White Collar’s Tiffani Thiessen have reportedly signed on, while Queen Latifah and Snooki both denied they would be involved with the show.

15+ pictures inside of Elisabetta Canalis at Barneys New York…

Please tell me who goes shopping with their 2 dogs. Also she didn't buy a thing. Very unusual for her, never saw her papped out shopping where she didn't have at least 2 packages. Don't you think that this might have been set up? Barneys NY isn't a usual pap hangout, is it?

Maybe she couldn't find a place to park close by so she's taking a taxi to her car! Very Happy

George would have been late, probably too late for Red Carpet and that would not look good.
Besides I don't think George is ever late for anything. Just isn't his way. It would show a disrespect for the Academy and it isn't George.

Patty: I’m basing my comments on an item I saw on one of the morning shows (GMA, Today or Early Show) - one of those "day after" things where stylists etc give their opinions and I thought the guy said that the zip rip happened at the house before they even set off! This guy said he was her hair stylist (thought at the time that no one would admit to that because there were already loads of comments about how bad her hair looked). But even if it happened in the car, as I said she's a so-called professional in the entertainment industry, so she's used to all the cameras (oh, how she's used to the cameras!!!) so she should have had the experience to make the best of a bad situation, but she didn't, she just added to it. I've looked for a clip of the interview I saw but can't find one, so am going completely by my memory of my thoughts back then.

Charley, you are right. It was Jonathan Anton on the Today Show. I remember our conversations that we wouldn't have admitted styling her hair!! lol And yes, they were still at the house when it happened. So, I don't believe that George sewed it, nor do I believe that she didn't have something for a back-up. For whatever reason, she HAD to wear that dress and with her dropping her shawl all the time, it was like she was trying to show off the rip. Such class.

Thanks Mel! I wouldn't remember the guys name (mainly because I've never heard of him, LOL) but I was pretty sure it happened long before they got to the Kodak Theater. After reading Patty's post, and thinking I may have got it all wrong, I still thought that if it had happened in the car, she could have wrapped that stupid wrap around the top of her dress to hide it - she certainly didn't seem to know what to do with the bloomin' thing anyway! And that would have made it look a bit different to the other one - remember there were pics of an actress who wore the same dress (I think it was the same day) there were pics to show how much better she looked in it, AND she knew how to carry the wrap!

Why do people take their dogs shopping? I mean I love dogs, I have Dexter but I would never take him shopping. Also lots of taxis don't take dogs unless you have special needs. Maybe she sat and rested at the taxi stand...shopping can be tiring most people I see sitting that way are kids not 32 year old women who should know better. She didn't buy anything but her hair looks done, needs a bit of lipstick though! Maybe she is checking out the competition and getting ideas on how to set up the new shop? Guess she isn't hiding away training yet. Stacy did pretty well on DWTS she came third and people liked her so if Eli ends up on the show no doubt they will be compared. Stacy was a professional cheerleader so she already had flexibility and could learn moves, Eli will find it a little harder. Not so sure picking up smoking again was such a great idea either! That really buggers up your stamina and breathing things that are very important when dancing. They may put her with Max he is tall and dark they could look good together. Of course we don't even know for sure if she is on but by now you would expect a denial from her camp if it wasn't true like the other celebs who have been named and denied it.

Charley- Yes it happened at the house, stated by the Hair dresser. George was also the one to sew the dress up for her. We talked about her having another dress for back up(else where), but Betty must have not been that important to have 2 dresses.

The Venice Teal/Blue long dress was pictured on someone else earlier in the year not at the same avent. So Betty was given a hand me down on her first big out. If it is true that Cavalli has dropped her goes to show she was never that important to him except for using George and her story as advertisement.

The cynic in me thinks that part of the reason why she didn't change the red dress was because she was expecting extra attention for her wardrobe malfunction. It didn't work everyone ignored it, the dress just looked bad. Hope she has better luck on DWTS this year the celebs get too choose materials and design of their outfits. Should be interesting if she has the gig.

Henway, you may be on to something there. She could get some experience for when her shop opens. Wonder if she'll have her dogs with her. I understand they aren't too well trained, potty wise.

I thought it happened either in car or after arrival. I thought the hairdresser was a "courtesy" provided by Academy for last minute touchups before walking carpet. I know that George did the stitching, said he knew what to do. Would have loved to have seen that. Didn't care for dress either. Looked like boning in abdominal area. Not attractive as Venice Teal, or the Peachy one she wore to Golden Globes (that was really nice).

George Clooney’s ex: Elisabetta Canalis is Laglio’s odd woman out

Post by Guest on Mon Aug 22 2011, 03:39

Laglio, Italy — The citizens of this sliver of a village on the southern bank of Lake Como are not exactly broken up over the breakup between George Clooney, their most famous resident, and Elisabetta Canalis, their country’s most stunning showgirl.

“I mean, who is she?” said Jennifer Folloni, 25, a barista at La Lanterna coffee bar down the road from Clooney’s Villa Oleandra in this monied enclave in northern Italy. Sure, Folloni acknowledged, she has never met Canalis, but as locals played La Rosa del Texas and Billy Bones poker machines, she nevertheless expressed bewilderment over what Clooney ever saw in the Italian bombshell.

“She’s just a velina,” piped up a woman bent over a cappuccino at the counter, using a disparaging term for the scantily clad eye-candy who dance on Italian television.

As is often the case in love triangles, the glamorous two-year affair among Hollywood’s leading man, Italy’s most desired brunette and the denizens of a small lakeside town has ended badly for one of the parties. Italian celebrity magazines and talk shows have mourned the split, but Laglio, population approximately 900, is relishing its seduction of the American over the Sardinian siren.

The way the people of Laglio see it, they got their man. Since he bought Villa Oleandra for about $10 million in 2002 from the Heinz family, Clooney has become an honorary citizen. He has used Laglio’s streets as the backdrop for his Fiat commercials and has shot movie scenes in his villa.

Even in an area known for housing soccer stars, Russian tycoons and, recently, the son of slain former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, Clooney’s presence has resulted in a real estate boom, known locally as the “Clooney effect.” Asking prices have doubled, according to Laglio’s mayor, who is trying to build a handful of small, low-cost apartments for local newlyweds.

The town’s celebrity couple called it quits in June. The reason why has become a popular Italian parlor game: Was it Canalis’s insistence on a marriage proposal, a fiery storming off, the sad chilling of a once burning romance, or the cold calculus of a public relations equation that includes a two-year expiration date for Clooney companions? (Representatives for Clooney and Canalis did not return calls for comment.)

What’s clear is that the people of Laglio weren’t in love with the Italian. “She never lived the town,” said Roberto Pozzi, the mayor, who was hunched over his desk overlooking the same view of bobbing boats, sloping hills and swooping sea gulls enjoyed by Clooney. Pozzi said that when it came to important subjects, such as the lake, the couple didn’t have much chemistry. As he pointed out the window, to what he called “paradise,” he added: “She was used to the party life in Sardinia. This tranquility can become boring. You either love it or you detest it, the absolute silence of it.”

Clooney, he said, was more in sync with Laglio’s brooding soul. “The people who love the lake don’t love it in the summer. They love it when it rains and it’s cold, and when a heavy fog settles in. I think Clooney appreciates this. I think she thought, ‘I’m going to shoot myself.’ ”

Charley- I am no good on this site at posting pictures. If you have a link just put that. I would love to see the other in the red. Did it have the boning also, or are we correct in Betty having undergarments on under?

Pattygirl- pretty sure it was at the house cause the hairdresser from Jerrasic park said how George came running in the room. I also remember Betty showing Matts wife while on TV the back where it was ripped.

Are they both Cavalli red dresses? The top of EC's dress is more empire, and frankly, for a stacked woman makes her bust look flat. No flash of cleavage or hint of bosom. Also, can't tell if the sound mixer's wife has a train or not, but she definitely looks more put together and like the dress was fitted properly. There are some white straps, that look like a bra coming out of the top of the wifes dress. I suspect proper support was not built into this dress. As for EC, the boning and the shape of it, lead to me believe it was a bustier under the dress. If the dress was designed correctly, the boning wouldn't be visible. Personally, I think the majority of the dresses Cavalli put EC in, and/or she chose made her look very Mother of the Bride or Bridesmaid, and not even the high-end of that look, but off the sales rack of David's Bridal. Cavalli did not design or provide her w/ anything that truly flattered her figure. If EC were smart she'd have let GC hook her up w/ Armani. But I guess she wanted that contract and was willing to wear crappy dresses for it.
Maybe now that Cavalli has dropped her, she can actually wear some pretty, flattering, and properly fitted clothes.

This is from the Washington Post. THE WASHINGTON POST - would they not have better things to write about that an US actor who holidays in Italy and what some locals in the town thought of his ex? I mean, the mayor is commenting.

George Clooney’s ex: Elisabetta Canalis is Laglio’s odd woman out
By Jason Horowitz, Monday, August 22, 9:28 AM

A recent issue of Vanity Fair Italia, the cover of which translates to “Eli and George, the end,” reported that Canalis told a friend that her time with Clooney in Laglio was like living in a “golden cage.” A well-thumbed copy of that issue stands in for the typical sports newspaper in the one-chair barbershop of Archille Taroni, 76, who boasts about having cut Clooney’s hair three times. He said he suspected that Canalis used Clooney for a career boost. “She got to do Sanremo because she knew the guy,” he said, referring to Italy’s most prominent song competition, which Canalis hosted last winter.

On the contrary, the barber said, Clooney “likes it here.”

Not that Laglio affords him complete privacy. Surveillance cameras and “beware of the dogs” signs are mounted on the villa’s walls. On a recent morning, a couple of sunbathers draped themselves over the public pier, next to small boats anchored under the property’s cypress trees and stone parapet. Passing boats killed their motors as their captains pointed at the villa.

Apocryphal tales about Clooney circulate around town: The first time he took his motorcycle helmet off in a local bar, a woman fainted; a local tourist discovered the Clooney-Canalis union by snapping a photo of the couple as they rounded a curve while driving out of Laglio; he carried groceries for an old lady (“That one is true,” the mayor said).

Pozzi, who quarreled with Clooney a few years ago over a few meters of public beach that the actor tried to build on, has come around. “He’s been a free advertisement,” Pozzi said, even speaking patiently about the procession of journalists and stargazers who observe Clooney’s villa or sit across the lake and, on days with no wind, hope to pick up a stray snippet of Clooney conversation echoing across the water.

On the other hand, the mayor said, Canalis attracted so many paparazzi and young, cat-calling men that he had to pass a decree barring more than three people from congregating outside the neoclassical house at one time.

Canalis’s split from Clooney has caused some people to leave her alone, though not in the way she might wish. In July, jewelry company DonnaOro, one of her sponsors, took out a full-page ad in several of the country’s top newspapers to announce the end of their relationship.

“Bye-bye Eli,” it read, describing the starlet as a “woman who more than two years ago, we decided should be our public face” and who shone long before she joined “the international jet set” and would continue to “sparkle.” Just not in its employment.

The people of Laglio have also moved on.

“Is Clooney around today?” asked Paolo Galimberti, a cyclist who stopped into La Lanterna with his son, Carlo, after a long ride at Lake Como.

“I don’t think so,” the barista’s father, bar owner Nearco Folloni, 60, said briskly.

“Everyone asks, right?” said Galimberti, laughing, who added that he was upset about the breakup.

“She was a nice Italian girl who was with the most famous star of Hollywood,” he said. “It made me sad when they split. In Italy, things are a disaster, economically, politically. It was a nice fairy tale, something beautiful.”

Maybe now that Cavalli has dropped her, she can actually wear some pretty, flattering, and properly fitted clothes.

i can't remember where I got the photo from, but it was a side-by-side because the item was that they'd worn the same dress, and yes it did say that it was Cavalli (well of course it would wouldn't it if it also said it was the same dress - silly me), but whether it was in the article or the comments beneath or on a forum/blog, everyone but everyone, was saying how much better it looked on the other woman. I think - I could be wrong but I think I saw a pic of the back and it did have a train, but can't find it now - I only kept the one I've posted.

Explains why her hair was done. I wonder if they did the chicken dance at the wedding! Sounds like Laglio isn't missing Eli too much either.

No it won't I'm wondering the Washington Post are bothering guess now Kim K's married there is no other news. I don't remember ever reading a write up like this about an ex before. She hasn't even been confirmed for DWTS but I think it would be good for her to do but I don't think she is going to get some great career going out of it. Also since the rumour is so strong and she hasn't denied it if she doesn't get confirmed it's going to make her and her PR team look a little sad. I'm saying this because even Snooki denied she was going to be on it as have others already. Sounds like she didn't show her sweet and sunny side to the folks of Laglio mind you we have heard them say before they weren't that impressed by her. Except the one guy who I really think was just impressed that George was dating an italian girl!

Elisabetta Canalis - girlfriend 2009 - 2011 part 7

Post by watching on Mon Aug 22 2011, 09:30

RE the Oscar's dress. I thought someone (Cavalli or Betty) stated that Betty helped design it. If she helped design it, would Cavalli then make another dress for someone else at the same event? Seems odd but then, my recollection could be off.

In the summer in Italy on holiday go to the lake or families with small children or the elderly because it is very quiet and relaxing. It is strange to think that Ely is bored to live for three months at the lake and share his holiday with Gee's friends who have more or less 60 years. She has 32 years and has always lived his holiday in beautiful places of the Italian coast where there was very lively.

I think she wanted a red dress cause lets be honest there isn't a lot of design in that dress. It looks like a bridesmaids dress but not as well made. For some reason the back split and Bette chose to keep on wearing it. The boning or underwear she is wearing underneath looks terrible. I wouldn't admit it was mine if I was him it was more like a high school project dress then from a supposed world famous fashion designer. He never seemed to give Eli access to his A stock which always made me wonder! I also find it hard to believe that she only had that one dress to choose from it was award season time surely she had something. I wonder if Cavalli will be sold in her store? He really didn't do her any favours on any of the red carpets she walked with George. It should be interesting to see if she can dress better without him.

If she was bored, perhaps it was because she was sharing George with his friends and they were getting the Lion's Share. When George is with his friends, it's basketball, jokes, movies, etc. Not a lot of "nightlife", mostly house parties. He is a gracious host, and makes sure ALL of his guests are happy, therefore Eli might not have been getting the attention she needed (until bedtime)

Clooney's ex: Odd woman in Laglio

Post by socimar on Mon Aug 22 2011, 13:51

I opened the WASHINGTON POST newspaper today and right under the main title "Gaddafi under siege in Tripoli" there was a pic of George with a title "Where an ex marks the spot" and pointed the readers to the STYLE section of the newspaper. There, on the front and second page there is an article detailing the breakup of the George and Eli and interviews with the locals in Laglio, including the mayor. Nothing particularly new but interesting. Not knowing how to send you the pages I went online and copied the links. Hope it works for you. I am sending Pages C1 and C2 from the Style section and the small pic on the front page of the Washington Post of today, August 22, 2011.

anon4: I believe that on "the other red dress" picture, it isn't bra straps but tan lines from a bathing suit.

I agree the dress definitely looks better on her than Eli.
Also you can see that it does have a train in the picture where George is helping her. Hair looks terrible there.

Yes, I read an article on a Italian magazine that if Eli knew that she was going to split from George this summer she would have been spending the whole time in Formentera, an island off the coast of Spain where all the European celebrities and wannabees go this year. It seems that every few years they pick an IN place to be and EVERYBODY and their dog flock there. This is is the turn of Formentera; topless bikinis, thongs, tans, hip-hop music on the beach, late nights at the disco and new romances blooming even if short-lived (till end of summer). This is what everybody does. Bobo Vieri has been there since the season began with already two different women. Belen Rodriguez is there with a few bikini malfunctions, etc.. etc..

He was quoted as saying so at the time. Also, I believe he spent some of his time working in the men's suit dept. at a local department store in Augusta. McAlphin's or something like that. I'll have to look that up and get back to you. (Watching grandkids this am, and have to find which book it was in, so it'll be a while)

From what I can remember the “green/teal” dress is a Cavalli dress and both women are wearing the same dress. The “red” one is NOT the same dress. Eli’s dress has an empire waist and the back train changes in texture, from a satin material turns into a lace, actually much prettier than the front. The other lady does not have an empire waist (there is no cut line under her breast) and does not have a train.

Don't know how to upload the pic (wish I could) but here is the link:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
you'll see that the dress is different: empire waist, the train has lace/sequins visible through George's legs and the wrap is Red Velvet/Red Satin. Three different textures in that dress.

I thought it might be tan lines as well - I have a vague memory of that being discussed (and maybe confirmed) at the time.

And I was talking about the other girl's dress when I said it had a train. You can't see it in that photo, but I saw other pics of her where the train was in full view.

Okay, fluffy. Found it in one book ( I have 5). Had the wrong store for mens wear - it was Nadler's in Kenwood, OH. McAlphin's in Crestview Hills, KY was where he sold shoes and everyone loved him of course. He would draw smiley faces on the soles of shoes after he sold them. Also papered backroom wall with funny sketches of coworkers.
So I would guess he picked up his sewing knowledge when working at Nadler's.

Well regardless, it sounds like heaven to me! I would love to be there, with his friends or alone. It sounds like my kind of place. I’m not much of a going out all the time partier. I’m more of a go for a walk, talk to the locals, find a local coffeehouse and visit person. Oh, and maybe a bike/motorcycle ride or two.

Nadler's is a men's store in Kenwood Towne Center Mall in Kenwood (a Cincinnati suburb). McAlpin's was a well-known department store in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (it was bought-out by Dillard's about eleven years ago). George worked in the women's shoe department in Crestview Hills, Kentucky (just south of Cincinnati) from 1981-1982, then left for LA in 1982 (and the rest is history).

Same here. Life is too hectic anyways to be spending your vacations/getaways hopping from one party/club to the next.

That Betty sounds like such a...ummm...lovely person. Rolling Eyes

Don't forget girls, that was really MHO. Was only supposing why she'd be bored. Maybe for her, it wasn't a vacation/getaway. After all, she spent most of her time in Italy, anyway, and there's no real shopping in Laglio, not like Milan.
