George planning surgery in early 2012
I'm posting a few things from other articles here:
From Deadline
I asked him about Deadline’s Mike Fleming’s exclusive report that he was dropping out of the planned Warner Bros. “Man From U.N.C.L.E. ” film directed by his frequent helmer and former partner Steven Soderbergh. Clooney indicated he would love to do it but physically just isn’t up to it. “I realize I’m 50 now and am going for neck and shoulder surgery soon and just can’t do it physically, ” he told me with a sigh.

I wonder when he is going to fit it in? If things go up for awards it would mean missing a lot of the season too. It is a pity I think it would have been fun he works well with Soderbergh. He must be really feeling his age. His shoulder surgery is really going to mess up his basketball playing!

Re: George planning surgery in early 2012
Probably happen just after Academy Awards, which pretty much ends the awards season. You know, it isn't necessarily feeling his age as much living with constant pain. Can you imagine the pain he must feel when he does play basketball? I can't understand why he waited so long to have it taken care of, unless the shoulder injury is more recent and the combination pain really bad.

Either way Patty, no one would want to wait any longer. Surgery is so much harder to get over when you’re older. So waiting until he’s in his 80’s would not be wise. I feel his pain, too!

It's the pits, really. Neck and shoulder injuries both bring on headaches, sometimes excrutiating, worse that migraines. I know, get them occasionally. Pinched nerve in neck, afraid of operation, slip of knife and i'm a cripple. Live with it. Have been for over 40 yrs.

I write in the Telluride thread. I know that a neck surgery will be neccesary but why the shoulder too?? I don´t remember having read.

Re: George planning surgery in early 2012
Most likely the two are related. Probably when he fell during Syriana and injured his neck, he could have also injured his shoulder at the same time. It wouldn't have been as urgent to be attended to as his neck/brain injury. It might not even have been detected immediately. Possibly if he were a less active man, it might never have been realized. Since he is so active, Leatherheads (playing football), his regular basketball playing, exercising, the pull-ups during The American, the crazy antics during Fantastic Mr. Fox, and don't know whatever else he may have done, all these things could have aggravated his shoulder to the point that he wants to get that taken care of, too. Better to get them both done at same time as his recovery process will probably be similar for both.

I'll take the first shift for taking care of him post-surgery. I should have him feeling better after a month or two, then the next person can take care of him. lol In all seriousness, I definitely know his pain. He is wise to have something done now, rather than let it go further.

I'd take the second shift. He should be in fine shape after you get done, then I'll do his physical therapy. Sure I could find something to get that shoulder moving well, and I'd make sure he doesn't have to strain his neck. He can just lie there, and I'll do all the work.

Sounds like Mr. Clooney is going to be well taken care of. I would take the third shift but I don't think there would be much left of him after you ladies get done. LOL

Oh, cindi, I think they'll be plenty left to go around. Promise I'll not wear him out. I'd like to spend quite a bit of time just talking to him about oh, I don't know, anything he'd like to talk about. Maybe he'd even tell me some of his great stories. It isn't all about bodily urges, you know.

hathaross, you don't really want George to suffer pain for 2 more years, do you? How about taking a break, and being a nursing aide for the time George needs you, and then go back to University. I'm sure he'd pay well enough for you to pay off your tuition.

Oh no no!! don´t misunderstand me. God I don´t want that he suffer any pain...
I mean that he said years ago that when he gets older he´ll hire a nurse to take care of him.. I lend volunteer, but he has to wait for me So I'll learn and gain experience to be ready

Oh, that's different. You'll have plenty of time to finish and get your experience. He won't be old enough for a nurse for another 20-30 yrs.
He still has to grow up. Hope it's not for a long time. He's just too cute the way he is.

I think at 70 or 80, he might have upgraded his age requirements. I don't think he's Hugh Hefner. If he's still doing 30 yr. olds, he won't need a nurse.

I lived with eight twisted vertabrae since childhood, and I finally got straightened out by a chiropractor at age thirty-eight. It took over a year (three treatments a week), but, now, I have been pain-free for ten years.

I think his troubles are all from the Syriana injury. Residual injuries are common maybe years after the fact. I am glad the George is taking care of his injuries now, rather than later.

Re: George planning surgery in early 2012
Glad to hear you're painfree after your treatments. Must have been excrutiating while having it taken care of.
For me, nerve is being pinched due to calcium buildup where nerve passes through vertabra, and would have to be "scraped" away. Didn't want to take risk then, and especially don't want to now. I have no wish to have anyone responsible for my care. My children deserve better than that.

Do you really think that when he's in his 80's a 30 year old woman would "nurse" him? I'm thinking of Hugh Hefner and his "runaway bride" or the blonde former Playgirl (forgot her name) who married that billionaire and he never saw her afterward.

Gee shoulder was hurt when the motorcycle ran The American falls. In January 2010 he had been in Dusserdolf to treat the shoulder. The neck surgery is much more serious because he broke vertebrae and has a permanent injury to the dura mater. His problem was the brain.

I have The American on dvd. Saw the motorcycle accident and to me it was clearly not him. May have been a dummy. Check the dvd, the person that fell was wearing a white crash helmet and looks suspiciously like a dummy. I don't think the director would let his star George take a fall like that.
